Over the last few months, Semaphore’s beloved Palais Hotel has been quietly receiving a facelift. Now, just in time for summer, they’ve revealed their new look with a perfectly coastal, outdoor bar.
In a chat with Glam Adelaide back in June, Palais owner Steve Karpluk revealed that they were refreshing the whole outdoor area with plans for live entertainment through the summer. The initial plans included additional shaded areas and covered spaces, plus better entertainment options with bigger televisions and a goal to make the venue more pet-friendly.
“We’re refreshing the whole area,” he said. “We’ll have outdoor live entertainment through summer. We’re adding a more covered space. More dog-friendly. We’re adding a large screen TV.”
The team worked with Thorne Construction to achieve this easy, breezy, relaxed summer spot. The space looks like a slice of Greece, with stone accents, crisp white walls, and bright blue accents. There are blue and white umbrellas, relaxed seating, and stunning ocean views, making for the ideal backdrop for a Sunday session by the sea.
That’s exactly what Steve envisioned too. Unlike other similar outdoor venues, where late-night beach clubs and nightclub-esque vibes are the go, the Palais’s new Deck Bar will be the perfect place to kick back with a drink on a Sunday afternoon, listen to chilled acoustic tunes and soak up the sunshine.
“Chilled vibes, no late nights, no massive nightclub, beachclub events. It’s going to be more that perfect Sunday arvo session, evening,” said Steve back in June.
With that said, there’s still a sprinkle of party atmosphere with live DJ sets in the Beach Bar from 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights. The Deck Bar will stay reserved for those more acoustic tunes, with solo artists playing in the afternoons most weekends.
As for the summer, the team is continuing its focus on quality. The Karpluk family have been running the joint since 2007, and have spent almost two decades perfecting what they do best. With the Deck Bar joining their ever-popular Bistro and Beach Bar, it provides a new space for those heading to the coast or for locals looking to enjoy a more relaxed spot.
At the Palais, cocktails, great meals and local produce take prime spot on the menu. As we head into the warmer months, the Beach Bar will continue slinging coastal-themed cocktails, light meals, share plates, pizzas, burgers and more. The Bistro, too, has your classic pub faves and a cosy indoor set-up.
So with its fresh seaside aesthetic, focus on quality food and cocktails, and a clear commitment to creating a relaxed community spot, the Palais’s new Deck Bar is part of an exciting new chapter for the iconic venue as it gears up for summer.
