Seven Grounds is Asian-fusion brunch goals

Adelaide has a new coffee destination, with great food and a stunning design.

There’s a new local on the block at Brompton. Seven Grounds is establishing itself as the new coffee destination in Adelaide.

After their initial opening date was delayed due to the coronavirus lockdowns earlier this year, Seven Grounds was officially launched on July 11.

Best friends come business partners Andre Penascoza and Mark Goode want to contribute to the growing area that is Bowden, which Andre believes is the one ‘little pocket’ in Adelaide that still doesn’t have much choice when it comes to cafes.

“They have Higher Ground in Melbourne and Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney, we though it’s about time we had something similar in Adelaide,” he says.

Mark (previously from Shōbōsho and Electra House) has created a stunning and concise menu that elevates simple dishes with asian-inspired flair.

The open-plan kitchen has a wok, providing the perfect opportunity to show off some brilliant Asian cooking techniques.

Indulge in the highly popular ‘Breakfast Dumplings’, filled with bacon, egg, bathed in smoked ginger broth and topped with chilli oil and spring onions, or a mushroom crepe, filled with a medley of loca mushrooms, a spicy mayo, baba ganoush, and finished with a salsa verde and toasted macadamia nuts.

Other menu items include a super salad with quinoa, wild rice, crispy kale, spinach and topped with a lychee dressing, and a Hong Kong egg waffle, served with caramelised banana, honeycomb, chocolate, roasted walnuts and cream.

Seven Grounds’ ethos is local, and this new local is using South Australian suppliers and fresh SA produce to deliver delicious and dynamic dishes.

The food isn’t the only thing that makes Seven Grounds so good, with the fresh, impressive interior design also proving to be a hit with the locals.

Designed collaboratively between Andre, Mark and local design firm Faculty (who designed The Noble Gentleman), Seven Grounds’ interior is soft, minimalist and open, providing a refreshing contrast to the street outside.

There is constantly flow, with open-glass windows, and rounded architecture.

Outside, Seven Grounds has collaborated with local artist Jasmine Crisp, who has painted a stunning mural with vivid colours and cosy garden images, which sees the fresh produce literally radiating from the café walls.

“For us, the café experience starts when you’re not even here – it starts when you’re finding us online, and then continues when you’re parking, and walking up the street. The mural is definitely a head turner,” says Andre.

Seven Grounds, with its delicious food, great coffee, and stunning design, is absolutley worthy of your attention.
