NEW Cellar Door! Beneath The Barossa, A Fortified Wine Adventure Awaits

This Barossa spot is back in ownership of the sixth generation of the Burge family and are dedicated to sourcing all its produce locally.

Tanunda Main Street is renowned for its old buildings, none more eye-catching than the exposed-brick complex located at the front of the Burge Barossa Illaparra Winery site.

The 123-year-old complex has a secret though, and while that secret has been open since June, it’s an extremely exciting addition. The new cellar door named, Underground Barossa, showcases the finest produce the Barossa has to offer.

The refurbished space holds barrels of fortified wine, an old cellar containing maturing bins of premium Barossa red since the 1950’s, a café and of course bar.

Run by the next generation of the Burge Family, Amelia Thomas of the families’ sixth generation believes it’s important to promote the Barossa much as possible, not only her family’ products.

Popular wines of theirs include their bulk fortified wine Barossa Boy Wines, which was launched by Trent Burge in 2017, and Amelia’s sparkling wine which was launched in 2019.

The Burge family also include Barossa Wool products, made by some of their 6000 sheep herd, and port-infused chocolate, crafted exclusively by the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company.

The cellar door offers guides through their range of white, red and sparkling wines, matched with local Barossa cheese and chocolate paired with their legendary tawny.

Visit Underground Barossa during the vintage, and you’ll detect the aroma of fermenting red wine in the original concrete tanks.

The space also brews coffee from the local supplier Barossa Coffee Roasters, with the milk, tea and baked goodness all locally produced.

Exciting things are coming for the space, including wine tours, regional produce platters and a variety of personalised experiences.

Follow Underground Barossa’s Facebook page for upcoming news and updates.

Opening hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am-1:00pm Saturday.

Discover Underground Barossa at 161 Murray Street, Tanunda 5352.
