Down the Rabbit Hole Wines, the McLaren Vale winery, positively broke the internet last month when it released pictures of its temporary cellar door – aka a vintage bus called Lennon.
Hinted by owners Elise Cooke and Dom Palumbo at the time, a brick and mortar cellar door was on its way and now we have confirmation that it’ll be open this Friday.
The McLaren Vale cellar door has been built in a similar fashion to Lennon’s fit out. An ethereal and rustic vibe that’s been replicated in their stationary location.
With wooden features, orange mosaics and cotton rugs accentuating the floor, the same thoughtful touches have been added to their cellar door.
It’s not just the look that speaks to the atmosphere Elise and Dom want to present. Their website states that their cellar door is a place to “try their wines, roll out a rug, enjoy platters of goodness, pour another glass, sit a while… smile a lot.”
They’re taking strictly no bookings, walk-ins only. It’s also not a place for wine buses or bucks/hens parties, so skip Down The Rabbit Hole when you’re creating your rowdy itinerary.
Their head winemaker is the award-winning Walter Clappis, and the rest of the team includes creative young winemakers and wine lovers.
Dom and Elise have long cheered a philosophy of imagination and adventure, and it is for this reason amongst others that Lennon seems to be the perfect fit to showcase their wine.
We don’t believe this is goodbye to Lennon in the slightest as in summertime, Lennon will be an open rooftop bar.
In the meantime while the weather doesn’t favour us, head to their cellar door as of this Friday.
They’ll be open from 11am ’til 6pm on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. 11am ’til 9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
