NEW Clare Valley wine label, My Better Half, launches

Indian Restaurant owner Sabby Soodan had launched a small-batch wine label in Clare, with intentions to release two more wines this June.

Owner of Indii Flavours and Indii Of Clare, Sabby Soodan, has launched a wine label called My Better Half Wines. The small-batch wines are available online, and exclusively sold at the two Indii restaurants.

“Sabby is passionate about wines and that can be seen with the extensive wine lists and wine rooms showcasing great wines that he offers at Indii restaurants,” said Kshirod Behera Operations Manager of Indii Group of Restaurants.

“Quite a few wine brands he knew and loved turned their focus from making traditional and exceptional wine to producing commercially successful wines,” said Kshirod.

“In turning their brands to a more commercial focus, the quality of the wine has been deteriorating over the years. Therefore, [Sabby] started his own brand to keep the quality and the method traditional with small batch production.”

Based in South Australia’s Clare Valley, My Better Half currently has six wines under its belt, each with its own bright-coloured, and strikingly-designed label. My Better Half wines was born out of a love for wine, and a desire to give guests a superior product at the best value.

“All of our varieties are crafted in small batches, showcasing a diverse style of winemaking that comes from our desire to balance value with exceptionality,” said Kshirod.

“Purpose of My Better Half Wines is to make small batch wines with a fusion of different textures, structures and complexities resulting in unique, innovative, and better wine.”

The wines currently available are the My Better Half Cabernet Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, 2017 Shiraz, 2018 Shiraz, and 2021 Pink Moscato.

Clare Valley has an impressive history in white wines, despite being increasingly known for its reds.

“My Better Half wants to honour Clare Valley’s previous reputation as the home of some of Australia’s best Riesling varieties and produces the great red drops from the valley with minimum of 2 years of maturation,” said Kshirod.

My Better Half has also steered away from printing tasting notes on the labels, as the team believes that “good wine proves its worth on the palate”.

“The labels designed are very trendy and we believe in everyone has a better half – embrace the better half,” said Kshirod.

The small wine label has also shared plans to release a Chardonnay and 2022 Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling in June 2022.

Kshirod said the new wines will be launched in June “to expand the brand’s white wine portfolio”, as well as “release 2019 reds”.
