New concept images revealed for $92 million Netball SA Stadium

Plans for a new $92 million multi-sport facility and Netball stadium commence as concept images are revealed.

New concept images highlighting the state government’s plan to replace the ageing Netball SA Stadium with a $92 million multi-sport facility in Mile End were revealed ahead of the 2024 Super Netball Grand Final, which was held last Saturday at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

The new stadium is designed with a cutting-edge 70s influence and is set to provide back-to-back premiers, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, with super training facilities.

“Netball is one of the state’s most popular physical activities, with more than 35,000 people regularly participating – and we’re determined to deliver grassroots facilities that are fit for purpose, which is exactly what will happen with our major investment at Mile End,” shares Peter Malinauskas MP Premier.

The brand-new facility is set to include a 3,000-seat indoor show court, more indoor courts, 26 outdoor courts with better shelter, improved lighting and new playing surfaces, new change rooms, improved food and beverage facilities and more water stations, which is a much-needed upgrade from the current facilities.

The existing stadium at Mile End has suffered a few issues including a leaking roof, failed air-conditioning and power failures which have previously forced the cancellation of games. So the new facility is a welcome addition to the sport.

After a monumental year for the Adelaide Thunderbirds, and an epic grand final win, the desire for the sport is only increasing.

“2024 has been a monumental year for netball in South Australia, headlined by our Adelaide Thunderbirds who have experienced a record-breaking season on and off the court.

“The team made history on court with record margins and highest scores and were undefeated at our new home,” says Netball SA CEO Bronwyn Klei.

“Furthermore, plans are underway for the major $92 million redevelopment of Netball SA Stadium, and we look forward to working with the government and our community to develop a world-class facility for future generations.”

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin next year, with the new facility to open its doors in 2028.
