What do you get when you combine gorgeous native flowers, handcrafted chocolate, adorable farm animals and memorable hands-on experiences? Well, other than a perfect way to spend a chilly SA weekend, you get the Fleurieu Peninsula favourite – Wildhand Farm.
This family-run Willunga Hill farm built a name for its Instagram-worthy location, native flowers and hands-on workshops, but before long, there were a few cheeky residents of their 25-acre property that soon stole the show.
“It all started when people started pulling up on the side of the road to hang out with our cows and take photos. We could see how happy the cows made people just being in their presence. It wasn’t until we started hosting flower workshops that the idea came about,” tells owner Alice.
However, in 2026, the team are changing things up a bit.
Even though their Highland cow experiences aren’t going anywhere, recently the family closed the chapter on their beloved flower workshops, turning their attention towards exciting new hands-on experiences and products.
One of them being – Billycart Chocolate. This latest venture is a collaboration between Alice Cearns and Max Collett (formerly of Trilby’s Chocolates) who, as Alice tells it, bonded over a shared passion.
“We actually met in January and realised we have the same dream and vision for craft chocolate making,” she says.
“He’s actually now moved up to make chocolate with me at the farm, and we’ve gone and created Billycart Chocolate as our future company that develops its own product range and experiences.”
With a bean-to-bar ethos, the chocolate is crafted from scratch right on the farm, in the very shed that once served as the flower workshop space. And while the Billycart branding and packaging is still being refined, rest-assured you can still satisfy your sweet-tooth with the delectable Trilby’s label chocolate (available at the farm’s newly reopened farm stand, alongside much-loved native flower bouquets) before the Billycart brand makes it’s debut.
As for the farm-stand itself, it’s also getting a little glow-up of its own this season. Housed in the farm’s iconic silo at the entrance of the property, the self-serve stand is now open seven days a week, 9am to 4pm throughout winter, stocked daily with chocolate and flowers.
But weekends at Wildhand Farm are shaping up to be something extra special. On Saturdays and Sundays, the team will be on-site with a friendly animal or two in the little grassed paddock beside the stand, plus a wider range of products including eggs and honey will be available for purchase. And yes, meeting the animals is completely free.
“You go to the farm stand, there’s a little picnic table there, you can sit by the animal, shop at the shop, and we’ve got chocolate products you can just open and eat and kind of hang out,” Alice explains. “It’s something you can spend half an hour down there just relaxing.”
It’s worth noting that while the farm stand is open and welcoming to all visitors, Wildhand Farm’s broader experiences – including the beloved Highland cow cuddles – remain separate bookable offerings. But one scroll through their Instagram is probably all it’ll take before you’re clearing space in your calendar to schedule a date with these fluffy favourites.
And let us let you in on a little secret…
“We’ve always got lot’s of exciting things going on, including more donkeys arriving in July!”
And if you really want to get your hands chocolatey? Alice has something exciting on the horizon. Starting next month, Wildhand Farm will be hosting craft chocolate-making classes right in the factory. In this bean-to-bar experience, guests will learn the full process, even getting to take home a rocky road slab they’ve made themselves!
Wildhand Farm’s farm stand is open 9am- 4pm, seven days a week. Weekend visits include free animal encounters. Chocolate-making classes begin next month – keep an eye on their Instagram for bookings.
The experience starts from June 4th, and you won’t want to miss out.
