On Friday 1 May, Adelaide dance company Move Through Life will launch the program for its 2015 performance season, Illuminate 2015, at a Program Launch Party, to be held amongst the spectacular views of city, sea and hills on the 29th floor of the Westpac Building, 91 King William Street.
The launch will include excerpts from the four dance works that will premiere in Illuminate 2015, as well as an ‘in conversation’ panel with the choreographers, which includes Katrina Lazaroff, who has been commissioned to create a dance work for the company. The whole night will be woven together by special guest MC, Candy Chambers, who will also sing a few tunes in her usual torch singer style.
“Katrina Lazaroff is one of the most sought-after choreographers in South Australia, and we are all really excited to have the opportunity to work with an artist of her calibre” says Artistic Director, Jo McDonald.
“Our vision has always been to give dancers the chance to continue their artistic development throughout life, and this is a very special way to do just that. Many of our dancers have trained professionally, performed professionally and taught dance, but as you get past the mid-twenties and start having families and pursuing other careers, the opportunity to continue as an artist is severely curtailed” says McDonald.
“I’ve been involved with Move Through Life for a number of years, as a teacher, artistic advisor and mentor”, says Lazaroff, “and now I’m delighted to have the chance to create a dance work with a large cast, something that is a rare opportunity for an independent choreographer, and to work with dancers who have such maturity and experience to bring to their dance.”
Illuminate 2015 will see the premiere of four new dance works. Along with Lazaroff, two new dance works , ‘On The Wind’ and ‘We Were One’ from MTL’s Associate Artistic Director and founding dancer, Kirsty Duncan will be presented, along with the debut dance work, entitled ‘Routines’ by Rodney Cuthbertson.
The launch party will also feature silent and live auctions, with auctioneer John Cullen from Cullen Real Estate, whose wife Catie is also dancing in Illuminate 2015. Some of the items up for auction include a private lunch with three of South Australia’s best known choreographers (Leigh Warren, Larissa McGowan and Katrina Lazaroff) and the naming rights to each of the four dance works that will premiere in Illuminate 2015.
The Program Launch Party commences at 7pm, Friday 1 May at Level 29, Westpac Building, 91 King William Street. Tickets can be purchased online here. The ‘Illuminate 2015’ season will run over two nights on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May in the Domain Theatre, Marion Cultural Centre, 287 Diagonal Road, Oaklands Park.
