New dates announced for 2024 Pearl Jam Dark Matter Australian tour

Iconic 90s grunge band Pearl Jam have announced two new dates for their highly anticipated 2024 tour.

Seattle-based rock legends Pearl Jam have added new dates to their massive worldwide tour to meet the remarkable demand following the announcement of their highly anticipated twelfth studio album, ‘Dark Matter’.

More than 40,000 keen ticket goers jumped onto Ticketmaster to snag their tickets Friday morning, before Live Nation released new tour dates in Melbourne for Monday, November 18 and Saturday November 23 in Sydney.

The iconic band is headed Down Under in 2024, following a ten-year hiatus after their last performance in Australia during the final Big Day Out festival in 2014. They will embark on a journey spanning nine countries and 25 cities, beginning at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, in May.

The Australian/New Zealand leg of the tour kicks off in Auckland on November 8th, followed by Gold Coast on November 13th, Melbourne on November 16th and Sydney on November 21st. With no Adelaide date announced as yet, this adds further speculation to the rumours that Pearl Jam will be headlining this year’s VAILO 500 After-Race Concert.

Joining Pearl Jam on this tour in Australia are special guests, Boston indie rock legends Pixies, returning after over 20 years since their first visit to Australia.

‘Dark Matter’, the upcoming album set to drop on April 19, 2024, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records, promises to be a game-changer for the band. The title track is already available for fans eager to get a taste of what’s to come, is produced by multi-GRAMMY® award-winning producer Andrew Watt, and follows the critically acclaimed album Gigaton (2020).

The tracklist for ‘Dark Matter’ includes titles like ‘Scared of Fear’, ‘Wreckage’ and ‘Running’ as well as the new single ‘Dark Matter’, which shows the band is staying true to what makes them who they are, while still exploring new sounds.

The album was written by the band at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu last year, where they reconnected, wrote and recorded the album in just three weeks. Playing as if their lives depended on it, all the blood, sweat and tears, as well as the energy of a vast career, came back to life and was poured into this new work.

After previewing the new album at a listening party at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood during GRAMMY® week, Vedder said, ‘I’m getting chills because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate.’

Bassist Jeff Ament expressed gratitude for Watt’s encyclopedic knowledge of the band’s history, ensuring the record stayed true to its roots.

‘He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players,” says Ament. ‘He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, “What the f**k is he talking about?”‘.

Pearl Jam, with their over 85 million records sold and influential albums like ‘Ten’, is no stranger to the limelight. Their debut album remains a totemic record of the grunge era, and the anticipation for ‘Dark Matter’ is sky-high as Vedder boldly declares it their best work yet.

‘We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it, or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think it is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work’, said Vedder.
