A new iPhone app that shows you who is single and ready to mingle at bars and venues (read: not online) is set to change Australia’s summer festival season.

The arrival of Pozee on the Apple App Store last month and into the hands of some 3,000 festival goers in Perth last week has meant that music festivals are now also one of the hottest spots to meet new people.

Already well accustomed to the vagaries of goliath dating app Tinder for arranging hook-ups via text, festival goers are now being treated to the ability to see who is single at the event.

According to Pozee’s co-founder, Ms Joanna Hayes “Even before the fabled days of Woodstock in the 70s, music festivals have been a place for both lovers and music lovers alike to gather and pay homage to their idols. But the rise of dating apps and smartphone ownership probably has a lot to do with why the love ain’t quite what it used to be.”

Pozee is being seen as an antidote to a world where winks, pokes and text messages have come to replace real human connection. Using your phone’s location services, Pozee enables singles to identify each other at a venue or event and discretely show their interest in meeting face-to-face. The onus is then on either party to approach the other in normal conversation.

According to Ms Hayes, “Dating apps are useless at a festival because they can’t help you identify who is single among the thousands of people around you. Dating apps can only provide you with a catalogue of faces that could easily be connected to someone sitting at home in their sweat pants. When you’re actually out having a good time, you want to see the opportunities that are all around you, so you can meet people in real time.”

What sets Pozee apart through? Users can choose to take a step back with private mode and not advertise their relationship status to the world.

Pozee is a handy app for meeting singles wherever you are, but it’s particularly good for festivals because;

  • Pozee doesn’t cast a net for kilometres around, it only shows singles at the same venue
  • There’s no need to read through online profiles; just turn it on, throw it in your pocket and go back to enjoying yourself
  • It’s a great way to meet new friends when you can’t find your old ones
  • Pozee won’t drain your phone’s battery; perfect for those three day marathons in the bush

The app represents a radical departure from the current momentum of online and mobile dating toward the ever-increasing dehumanisation of social interaction.

The beauty of Pozee lies in its simplicity, but also the careful attention that has been paid to those often neglected user concerns such as privacy, safety and battery drain.

Pozee is currently available in Australia only, with plans to release in the US later this year and the rest of the world shortly thereafter.

Users can grab a glimpse of the new app and sign up to be notified of its local release at Pozee’s website – www.pozeeapp.com.
