New development on Franklin Street to include 246-room hotel, 175 apartments, and retail shops

Planning approval has been granted for a mixed-use development on Franklin Street which will include a 246-room hotel, 175 apartments, and retail shops.

Planning approval has been granted for a mixed-use development on Franklin Street, which will span 18 to 21 levels, led by Auta Group and designed with Nic Design Studio and Chessmen Architects.

This new development will include 175 “stylish” apartments, a modern hotel with 246 rooms, and commercial shops spaces. The design focuses on sustainability, incorporating universal design and Environmental Sustainable Design principles to create an inclusive, convenient, and eco-friendly space for residents, visitors, and the community.

The development is set to reshape the skyline of Franklin Street and will play a key role in boosting the area’s economic growth. By combining residential, commercial, and hotel spaces, it will create a mixed-use environment where people can live, work, and thrive all in one central location.

The project has been years in the making, with Auta Group working closely with architectural firms and consultants to bring the vision to life.

“Credit must go to our architectural firms who brought the project to life, which is a collaboration between Nic design Studio and Chessmen Architects, but also Future Urban, Bestec, KD Certifiers, Colby Philps Advisory, Frank Siow & Associates and PT Design, who all provided professional advice and guidance during the planning approval process,” Project Director Jim Apostolou said.

With planning approval now in hand, the project is ready to move into its next phase, which will focus on the interior design of the apartments and hotel rooms. Auta Group plans to launch the project in March 2025, with details on the hotel brand and operator set to be revealed in the coming months.

“This project, together with the adjacent development, Tapangka On Franklin, will both help to transform the skyline in this part of the city, and we couldn’t be more excited about it,” Apostolou said.

This new development, along with Victoria Tower Adelaide, which is set to be completed towards the end of 2025, signals a busy and exciting future for Auta Group . The Victoria Tower project, Auta Group’s flagship development, will kick off the company’s next wave of projects, including another major venture set for January 2026, with completion expected by 2028.

As the design team works through the next stages, all eyes will be on this exciting development, which is set to transform Franklin Street and contribute to Adelaide’s skyline massively.
