Have you ever stayed in a church? Now’s your chance to!
Divine Retreat accommodation has just launched in the tranquil little town of Tarnma.
It’s a beautiful 1910 Lutheran Church about 15 minutes out of Kapunda blessing you with a unique country stay.
The church is newly and lovingly renovated. It’s converted from a space of worship to a space to reside in.
Owner Sandra Palmos purchased the church in September 2021. She had always dreamed of owning a church of her own after staying in one on her travels.
“I didn’t actively pursue it but every now and again I would look into it but there wasn’t much around selling,” Sandra said.
“Early in 2021, with the thought that we probably couldn’t travel much overseas any time soon, I actively started looking.
“I came across a private sale, organised to see the property and fell in love with it the minute I saw it. The owner and I hit it off and within a couple of weeks I negotiated the buy.”
As soon as she purchased the property, Sandra began to renovate, transforming the church into a place people could stay.
With the entire church to yourself, Divine Retreat offers privacy and tranquillity. Timber ceilings and floors are flooded with natural lighting welcomed in by the arched stained-glass windows.
The space has a loft bedroom with a Queen size bed overlooking the ground floor full of antique furniture and rustic charm.
There’s a second bedroom with a queen size bed downstairs in a more private space, with another single bed and a sofa bed, making Divine Retreat suitable for up to six guests.
It has an open fire perfect for cold winter nights and a kitchen welcoming you to cook up a delicious feast.
The accommodation has a claw bathtub offering a romantic candlelit bath and a pool table to keep the crew entertained.
With no neighbours nearby, Divine Retreat allows guests to escape the chaos of the city. It has views overlooking the Totness Hills, nestled right in between The Barossa Valley and The Clare Valley.
The space embraces and pays tribute to its past with crosses and candles around the space. Outside is decorated with blooming roses and a white picket fence encompassing the gorgeous space.
“What I want my guests to experience when staying at Divine Retreat is the tranquility of the area, the peacefulness, the quiet and nature,” Sandra said.
“When they see it I want them to fall in love with its character, its beauty and the history.
“I want them to feel like it’s a five star retreat but also feel the tradition. I want them to listen to the birds chirping, breath in the country air, enjoy escaping the chaos of the city and their daily lives.“
Divine Retreat is located in Tarnma SA.
