Calling all dessert lovers! Josh and Chimere Rivers of Jetty Road’s specialty coffee shop C.R.E.A.M. have announced a delicious new project is in the works just next door, and taste testers will likely be wanted in the upcoming weeks.
A decadent specialty donut shop in the making, Landough’s is set to open its doors mid-September. With a mouthwatering menu in the works, you can soon sink your teeth into a range of 15-20 flavours of filled donuts baked fresh daily, as well as doughy fried creations the husband and wife team are calling ‘slabwiches’.
Affectionately named after their wonderful 1-year-old son Lando, the new donut shop is not Rivers’ first rodeo. After 8 years of being in business, Landough’s marks their fourth hospitality venture.
Landough’s is a sugary-sweet play on words of the name Chimere chose for their son – a choice about which Josh was ecstatic (we see you, Star Wars fans)! After all these years in the business, Josh notes this marks a special moment for their family because “everything I’ve done over the years… has always been for him”.
If the photos are anything to go by, young Lando is right in the thick of things as Josh and Chimere build their latest creation around him!
Following the successes of sister businesses Remy’s Deep Dish Pizza and Bar and Diamond Burger’s American-inspired flavours, and of course Rivers’ first shop C.R.E.A.M., the duo took to socials to thank everyone for the instant support Landough’s has already received online. Landough’s Instagram has already received over two thousand followers since the initial announcement on Tuesday evening.
Frequenters of popular brunch and coffee spot C.R.E.A.M. can expect Landough’s coffee range to be a point of difference. It’ll sport a line of decadent Starbucks-esque coffees, à la whipped cream, caramel frappacinos and creamy thickshakes, “with an emphasis on quality” says Josh.
Now, about these aforementioned ‘slabwiches’… Josh says there will be 2-3 flavours on rotation each month. The basis is formed by “baking a very soft white bread loaf that we will cut into slabs around 1.5 inches thick”, which, following a central incision, will be “stuffed full of fillings”, the outsides buttered and fried.
Anticipating the donuts’ popularity, “once they’re all sold out we’ll close doors,” said the duo in their post, but “we’ll continue to rise par levels until we find a happy medium.”
When the space next door to became available, Josh knew what to do: “I know and love Jetty Road thanks to C.R.E.A.M., so I couldn’t say no to the opportunity.”
A sneak peak of the shop the duo have designed and been “chipping away in” together is shaping up to be a dessert-lovers dream, starring glossy spun-sugar pink tiles texturing the walls and counter.
“This shop has been a full gut and refit, and as always designed by us!”
For those who cannot wait to get a taste, following the Landough’s socials accounts and checking in regularly is advised, as Josh and Chimere say “we’ll likely be looking for taste testers” once building is finished in the next few weeks and they begin perfecting their donuts before the mid-september launch.
Updates will be rolled out online: “We’ll just pop up posts asking folks to come down, it’ll be totally random,” so best to follow Josh, Chimere and Lando here.
Needless to say, we are ready to get a taste before the opening day!
