New eatery SiSea makes a splash at the Central Market

SiSea brings Mediterranean-tapas style dining to the Market, slinging fresh seafood and contemporary dishes in the open-flame restaurant.

New eatery SiSea brings Mediterranean-style dining to the Adelaide Central Market, slinging fresh seafood and contemporary dishes to market-goers as they dine around the open-flame restaurant.

Softly opening in November, the open-planned, flame grill restaurant has brought a world of culinary wonder to the Markets, tantalizing taste buds and intriguing guests to sit around the soft wooden bar and cool blue tiles.

“We’re the newest dining experience to open in the Central Market in a long time,” says co-owner Mark Gleeson.

“There’s a gap for this Barcelona and Mediterranean tapas style of dining experience, where people sit around the kitchen and watch it being prepped and delivered.

“It’s instantly created a vibe, which the punters are loving.

“We’re really trying to deliver a great vibe and experience at a great price.”

SiSea is a culmination of Mark’s decades-long experience across the hospitality sector, intertwining the theatrics of dining around an open-planned kitchen with comfort food, cold beer, great wine and incredible staff.

The eatery has a revolving menu, making it a smorgasbord for your senses. Marvel at the Chinese wok burners firing up mouth-watering Eyre Peninsula mussels before they’re served to you in seconds, or chow down on garlic prawns Bocadillo and tapas boards starring local produce.

Signature dishes also include the seafood soup, with mussels, pipis, and more –a perfect mid-afternoon meal year-round.

“It’s something you can have any time of the day, it’s filling and it’s good for you,” says Mark.

“But we’ve also got the Central Market at our doorstep, we can put on a special in five seconds flat.”

For the Friday crowd, SiSea host the best after-work special: Yellow Hour. Shuck Streaky Bay oysters, sip on a delightful glass of Veuve Clicquot and indulge in crumbled calamari for $25 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

SiSea is fast, thrilling, and the best way to kick start your weekend.

For drinks, customers can expect SA flavours to course throughout the menu, with fine wine, spirits and beer from the best of the region.

SiSea works on a no-booking basis as a result of its popularity. If you can’t find a spot at the bar, they’ll take your number and text you when a seat is available – letting you peruse the markets before settling down for lunch.

As SiSea settles into the bustling Central Market, the new eatery holds big plans for the future.

“We want to spill out into Grote Street…we want to be a part of the reactivation of that dining area,” says Mark.

“Our plan is to turn to that sunny side of the Market and fill it up with diners and chairs.

“Shucking oysters and having wine on a Sunday afternoon- let’s crank it up.”
