A new dawn is upon the iconic Marino Rocks restaurant with Tam’s Kitchen set to open the doors next month.

The Rocks Restaurant will be operated by Tam’s Kitchen, an Asian-Fusion Cuisine which has operated for the last 16 years out of a number of venues in Brighton.

Andrea Matthews, function coordinator of the space, said she hopes the new look restaurant will curtail the locals hunger of having an accessible eatery in walking distance.

“We’re renovating to entire kitchen and we’re also doing a freshen up at the front of the house,” Andrea said.

“Tam has an amazing asian side to his cooking but we will be focusing on a modern Australian seafood fusion which will be really fitting for that location.

“We will have a space for the board-walkers at the end of the walk or somewhere new for locals enjoy.”

First built in 1961 by a local fisherman, Mr Bert Fooks, the cafe was managed by his wife Mrs Rita Fooks who sold the fish caught by her husband. After more than fifty years of service to the Marino area, Marino local Ariella Helfgott initiated the a co-op and brought several other locals on board as founding members and created the Marino Rocks Social.

Marino Rocks Social shut their doors back in July, clearing the way for fresh eyes to take the once beloved spot to new heights.

“We’re really mindful that the community want that fish and chip shop back,” Andrea said.

“The community aspect is what attracted us to that space and we really want to have that restaurant there that they love.

“That whole pocket is really under-utilised and we would also love to partner with the City of Marion to put Marino Rocks as a whole to get back on the map.”

The Rocks will have two sittings with a brunch menu in the morning followed by a dinner service as well as engaging with other local businesses to host an array of fresh produce.
