Yes, that is correct. Adelaide is the filming location of choice for New Line Cinema’s highly anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot. The film, based on the blockbuster video game franchise, is set to be the largest film production in South Australia’s history. The production will create an estimated 580 jobs, with 1,500 extras employed (pay attention Hollywood wannabes) and approximately $70 million injected back into South Australia’s economy.

Mortal Kombat will be shot on Adelaide Studio’s Sound Stages, with post-production taking place in South Australia’s internationally acclaimed visual effects and post-production facilities.

A team of world-renowned Australian filmmakers are attached including James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) and award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid, who will make his feature directorial debut.

Pre-production will commence later this month, with production set to get underway before the end of the year.

Stay tuned for updates.
