The 80 day countdown to the 2012 Credit Union Christmas Pageant starts today with a new float, Winter Wonderland being revealed for the very first time.
To celebrate 80 years since South Australia’s first Christmas pageant in 1933, children and adults will see a white Christmas come to the streets of Adelaide with a float that is reminiscent of a northern hemisphere Christmas.
Credit Union Christmas Pageant, Event Director, Brian Gilbertson said the new float designed by Kari Lindsay would capture children’s imaginations.
“While Australia doesn’t experience white Christmases, it’s important that they’re represented in the Pageant as we’re fascinated with the white Christmas concept having grown up with many stories, like the Polar Express,” Mr Gilbertson said.
The new float will feature a sleigh on a bridge over a frozen lake with snow-covered Christmas trees and people roasting chestnuts.
“A float like this adds to the magic of Christmas while also representing how people on the other side of the world experience the festive season.
“This year, our new floats and the first ever Credit Union Christmas Pageant Trail along North Terrace are all part of celebrating 80 years since the first pageant heralded the start to the Christmas season and brought joy and festivity to the people of Adelaide,” Mr Gilbertson said.
Credit Union Christmas Pageant Company, Chair, Peter Evers said the credit unions were as proud as ever to be supporting the Credit Union Christmas Pageant.
“This will be the 17th year credit unions have sponsored the Christmas pageant, which we believe is a vital part of South Australia’s history and Adelaide’s vibrancy. It is a pleasure to be part of the team that brings so much happiness to the streets of Adelaide,” Mr Evers said.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government. The naming rights sponsors comprise four leading SA credit unions – People’s Choice Credit Union, Community CPS Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
The 2012 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Trail will be held along the North Terrace cultural precinct 4 – 7 October 2012.
The 2012 Credit Union Christmas Pageant will be held on Saturday 10 November 2012, celebrating the milestone of 80 Years Young.
