New Chinatown restaurant ‘Kosso Korean BBQ’ features modern vibes teamed with authentic recipes

Kosso Korean BBQ offers authentic dishes that pay tribute to owner’s cherished family recipes, that were originally cooked by their mother.

Here at Glam Adelaide, we’re always on the lookout for Adelaide’s most alluring restaurants, whether they be newly opened establishments, old favourites, or hidden gems. Recently, we stumbled across Kosso Korean BBQ’s location on Field Street, tucked in one of Chinatown’s side streets, and were excited to see that the popular Tea Tree Plaza venue had opened a second location.

Finding “cook your own” Korean BBQ spots has been getting progressively harder over the years. Fewer locations are available for Adelaide’s hungry foodies to enjoy the traditional experience of grilling food at their own table, surrounded by aromas of Korean meats and spices.

Thankfully, Kosso has got you covered. The team opened their second restaurant on Field Street earlier this year, welcoming diners into a colourful, sleek, and inviting atmosphere with comfortable decor, and grills at each table. The lighting and table arrangements are intimate, and the restaurant itself feels spacious and comfortable, ideal for solo trips, date night, or your next work function. There’s even a selection of booths for a cosy dining experience.

The Kosso journey began with a simple yet heartfelt idea: “to recreate mom’s cherished Korean recipes and share them with the world”. Owner Lee Younglin wanted to create a space where he could show hi mother’s dishes to the masses, with each item on the menu serving as a tribute to the comforting, home-cooked meals that filled his childhood with warmth and joy.

Kosso brings to life the timeless traditions of Korean cuisine through the sizzle and aroma of grilling at your own table. The restaurant offers a range of menu options, each designed to suit every taste.

The banquet menu provides a lavish spread of Korean delicacies, perfect for special occasions and larger groups. À La Carte BBQ is also available, with which diners choose from a wide selection of premium meats and vegetables, grilled to perfection at their table. There’s also a set menu option, which gives the Kosso chefs the freedom of curating a selection of their best dishes, designed for a complete and satisfying dinner.

Beyond traditional grilling options like pork belly, wagyu short ribs, and scotch fillet, you can also order a range of sides including kimchi stew, hot pot, soups, Korean fried pancakes, seaweed rolls, and fried chicken. The team have endeavored to craft a menu that ensures anyone can enjoy the rich flavours of Korean cuisine, with gluten free, vegetarian, and halal options available.

The first Kosso location opened its doors in October 2022 at Tea Tree Plaza, proudly becoming the first Korean BBQ in the area. They wanted to offer exceptional dining experiences that combined delectable flavours, interactive cooking, and an inviting ambience. That tradition continues at their latest venue in Chinatown.

So, whether you’re a seasoned Korean BBQ fan or new to this delightful cuisine, the Kosso team promise a memorable experience, where diners can enjoy the art of grilling at their tables, sharing in the “unique dining experience that mum lovingly provided at home.”
