New Local Music: Cold Hiker Ready Debut EP

Since forming in late 2010, alternative rock outfit Cold Hiker have hit the ground running. Their unique, hard-hitting sound has already seen the four-piece support the likes of British India, Custom Kings and Stonefield on tour. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Jeff Buckley, The Black Keys and Parades, their sound is a mix of powerful vocals, distinct chord progressions and intricate bass arrangements.

With their debut EP co-produced at Industry Sound Studios and set for release in July, 2012 predicts an exciting year for the 20 year olds. Their second single ‘Phosphenes’ shows off the group’s mature music stylings, haunting falsettos and funky drum grooves to create an exciting sound that’s all their own.

Longtime friends, the four have spent the last six months perfecting their self-titled debut EP. “It’s the most accurate representation of where we were at musically during the time of recording. We spent about four months in pre-production breaking down the tracks and making them viable for a live format, and we’re all pretty pleased with the result,” says Cold Hiker’s Ed Quinn.
