South Australia’s first true outback distillery, Flinders Gin, will soon open the doors on a new expanded distillery, bringing a touch of rustic luxury to the gateway of the stunning Flinders Ranges.
The unique artisan gin distillery has become a destination for travellers and tourists heading to the outback, capturing all the botanical flavours of the Flinders, and allowing visitors to stop for a good ol’ gin-wag.
Based in a restored 1890’s Farrier’s and Stables, the expansion will offer a new Cellar-Door experience, featuring a four metre locally made Redwood bar, sourced from century old Redgum from the Wirrabara State Forest.
As well as their signature Flinders Gins, the new Cellar-Door will also offer a range of Cocktails, showcasing their range, including a honey and lemon Banded Bee, a hard Lemon Lime Bitters and an addition that co-owner, Leah Trotta can’t wait to hear customers ask for, a Dirty Dirty Gintini.
For the non-gin drinkers, there’ll be a range of locally sourced beverages, including wines and IPA beer from Clare Valley’s Pikes Wines, Draught from Yorke Peninsula’s Watsacowie Brewery and local ale from Jacka Brother’s in Melrose.
Leah’s husband and and the Master Distiller, Alby Trotta, triple distils his range of four signature gins, to fully concentrate the aromatics and deliver a smooth taste and finish, using native sourced ingredients from the Flinders Ranges and Outback SA.
And not only can enjoy a taste in the Cellar Door or grab a bottle to take home – he’s also made it easier to crack open a cold one back at the campsite, by packaging it in a can!
Taking out prizes in the 2023 World Premix Awards – there’s the Quandong Gin and Tonic cans, with Alby’s custom Tonic Tincture with notes of citrus, lemon myrtle, bitter orange, and rosemary with a light fizz, and then there’s the Outback Lemon Lime, with a fizzy splash of citrus, lemon myrtle, bitter orange and rosemary.

In addition to the Award Winning gin range, Flinders Gin has expanded into tea blends, candles, garnishes, and flavoured gin salt, made with pink Murray River Salt flakes blended with juniper berry, coriander seed, liquorice root and dried citrus peel.
South Australian Tourism Minister, Zoe Bettison, will officially open the Flinders Gin expansion, in a private event on July 2, ahead of a soft opening for the locals, before being open to the public from Friday July 7.
