New Mexican restaurant Mamacita brings the heat to Adelaide’s food scene

Adelaide’s latest Mexican restaurant Mamacita features over 50 tequilas and the hottest of chilli sauces for that extra kick!

Getting stuck into some seriously good tacos with a cheeky margarita on the side is the way to go on any day of the week (just me?!), and with new, vibrant Mexican eatery Mamacita arriving on Adelaide’s foodie scene, it’s another excuse to do just that!

Located in the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel on Pultney Street in the city, Mamacita showcases an innovative approach to Mexican cuisine and libations and is set to bring the heat for food lovers and bar-goers across South Australia.

Promising a fusion of traditional Mexican cuisine with a zest of adventure, Mamacita isn’t just about mouth-watering tacos and quesadillas; it’s the new go-to destination for those seeking an array of tequilas and a daring variety of hot sauces.

Proudly showcasing a treasure trove of over 50 tequilas, with the collection continually growing, guests can indulge in an eclectic array of margaritas or opt for the creative route and craft their own blends. But what truly sets Mamacita apart is its fiery selection of chilli sauces, spanning from mild to tear-inducing heat, with one sauce so potent that tasting it requires signing a waiver.

The menu at Mamacita’s is a celebration of Mexican classics like tacos, quesadillas and nachos and features other drool-worthy offerings. These include chipotle-marinated chicken, succulent pork ribs, decadent carne asada featuring slow-roasted and marinated scotch fillet, cured kingfish in lemon and lime, and yuca fries made from the yuca root, commonly found in South America and the Pacific.

Showcasing the expertise of Director of Food and Beverage Valentin Corchado and Chef Somerled Mackay, whose South American experiences bring an authentic touch to Adelaide, the menu promises to be an experience to be remembered.

‘The team at Mamacita has done extensive research into what makes the most flavoursome food, picked out some truly incredible and distinctive tequilas, and experimented with the best food and drink combinations to develop culinary itineraries capable of taking guests on a journey’, says Corchado.

‘We want to make food fun. We are proud to offer different ideas and have other exciting concepts we intend to roll out, like lollipops we will craft in-house with little scorpions or crickets imported from overseas.’

With the goal of developing a reputation for being the place for the tequila connoisseur, Mamacita features an ever-growing library of Mexico’s favourite spirits, including celeb-endorsed labels like Casamigos developed by actor George Clooney and 818 by reality star Kendall Jenner, alongside premium liquors Gran Patron Piedra and Don Julio 1942.

Complementing these spirits are mezcals, offering a delightful smoky essence that has been developed during the distillation process, and a cocktail list currently featuring 14 margarita variations, with bartenders ready to create your favourite cocktail (with their wide range of spirits) at your request.

No Mexican food is really complete without a little bit of heat, and Mamacita’s global array of chilli sauces are all sourced from diverse corners of the world, including South Africa, Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, the USA, Fiji and Thailand.

Promising a spicy kick for those adventurous tastebuds, each sauce is rated on a heat scale—starting from a mild rating of 1 to an astonishingly intense level of 50 (out of 10). Redefining the meaning of heat, the spiciest—the Extreme Burn Artifact containing pure 1 million Scoville Pepper extract—is so powerful that a portion is served on the end of a toothpick and requires a signed waiver just for a mere taste!

And, if you’re looking for somewhere to have your own Mexican fiesta, Mamacita can also host your next event, with a capacity of up to 120 people and a private area for smaller groups.

With breakfast kicking off at 6 am and lunch at 12 pm, both are served inside the hotel at ground level from a smaller Mamacita menu offering, with dinner served from the Mamacita restaurant and bar on the hotel’s first level.

‘Mamacita is set to bring some spice to the Mexican scene in Adelaide, and we know guests will be impressed’, says Corchado.

New eatery Mamacita welcomes guests to embark on a flavourful journey of Mexican cuisine and culture and promises a zesty experience that will leave a lasting, spicy impression.
