In need of a new favourite eatery? North Adelaide’s Piccoli Piatti is the answer. Sitting on O’Connell Street, right where Cucina used to be, this modern Italian restaurant celebrates delicious food created for sharing.
“We’ve gone for a fresh, clean layout,” says head chef Jamie Carter. “We’re catering for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and have designed the venue around the menu.”
The owners are old hats in the industry, involved in popular local hotspots La Rambla Tapas Bar and Therapy Cocktail Bar. The menu is based on the idea of using high quality ingredients and loved Italian flavours in a contemporary style.
“There’s a real emphasis on the share-style atmosphere,” continues Carter. “It’s perfect for both large and small groups.”
Piccoli Piatti’s food offering focusses on traditional Italian dishes with contemporary plating and serving. The antipasto is sourced exclusively from local suppliers, and features a multitude of cheeses and cured meats, served with char-grilled bread baked fresh daily and in-house. The seafood served at the restaurant is also locally sourced.
“The octopus carpaccio with lime and walnut is a particular favourite of mine,” says Carter. “We also have an incredible 12-hour lamb shoulder dish.”
Carter also raves about Piccoli Piatti’s extensive cocktail menu, written by Therapy Cocktail Bar’s head mixologist.
“It humbles me how well he’s written the list,” he says. “The flavours work brilliantly with the menu.”
