There’s a big breakfast, and then there’s the Scandi Big Breakfast. Who doesn’t love meatballs for brekkie.

Located in the up-and-coming suburb just north of the city, New Nordic is perfect if you are after a unique breakfast option, a delicious coffee; or if you just want to enjoy a nice meal in a modern-Scandinavian setting.

The attention to detail at New Nordic is on point. I’m loving the colour scheme

Their menu is inspired by food of northern Europe. The Swedish owners offer a modern Australian menu with an exciting Scandinavian twist. Breakfast options include smoked mackerel omelette and Nordic Benedict; a slow cooked pork shoulder with rhubarb, silverbeet, eggs, hollandaise sauce and sumac on toast, a real stand-out for me. All of the dishes we sampled were rich in flavour and were paired with exceptional coffee. Their focus is on local produce, purchasing most of their fruit from growers in the Adelaide Hills. “All of the baked goods on the menu are made by our chefs, in traditional Nordic style. Guests can be assured that all our products are kept true to Nordic cuisine and are not created using artificial preservatives.” says Co-Owner Mattis Vanzati.

The fresh avocado on rye with dill aioli and Danish fetta. A traditional breakfast with a Scandi twist.

Their cocktails are made with love. All the infusions are made by their talented in-house mixologist, Mathieu Seban. Flavours include: jalapeno, pepper, cinnamon and rosemary. We tried the gin cocktail which was a mix of the jalapeno infusion, a dash of horseradish, lime and mint. The flavours complimented each other beautifully to create a stunning blend of spicy and sweet.

Appetising and diverse range of Nordic-inspired food options.

It’s not all about the food and coffee though. It’s clear they’ve put a lot of thought into the interior of the restaurant. The careful attention to detail with geometric Scandinavian design, complimented by indoor plants was both warm and inviting. The furniture, plants, signage and tableware are stylistically coordinated, even down to the business cards. Light floods in through the large windows opening up the interior. The timber, the natural elements, and the lamps all work in harmony to create a stunning ambiance.

Great asset for Prospect’s flourishing foodie scene!

New Nordic is open Tuesday to Sunday 7:00 am to 9:00pm. For more info check out their website here or their facebook here.
