Little girl having fun at the parkWork commenced today on the development of a new action themed playground in the south western corner of Payneham Oval.

The new playground will feature a rope bridge, climbing net and a slide; and the existing swings currently on site will be replaced with a cloud swing and triple swing set.

The development also includes additional barbecues, shelters, bins, a drinking fountain, picnic benches, upgraded and relocated fitness equipment and toilet facilities, a new hard surface basketball/netball ring, and extensive landscaping. The total cost for this project, from concept to design to construction is approximately $840,000.

LCS Landscapes have been engaged by the Council to deliver this development, and construction is scheduled to conclude by the end of July 2015.

Mayor Bria said the Payneham Oval Playground Project is an important regional development, and the third of five “Innovative Playgrounds” planned for the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.

“These playgrounds are being developed at key sites within our City to provide the community with a unique and higher standard of play equipment, which is based around a particular theme or character,” Mayor Bria said.

“The theme that has been chosen for this playground is ‘action’, in recognition of the action based activities already present at Payneham Oval such as the tennis facilities, cricket practice pitches and cricket and football oval.”

The Council has already redeveloped its playgrounds at James Coke Park and Linde Reserve as Innovative Playgrounds.

Adey Reserve and Dunstone Adventure Playground will also be redeveloped as a part of this initiative.
