New Point Gibbon Campground invites travellers to explore the Eyre Peninsula

The Point Gibbon Campground has had an upgrade, now featuring 15 designated, bookable sites with public toilets and on site Wi-Fi.

The Point Gibbon Campground, located at the heart of the Eyre Peninsula coast, has just reopened following a significant upgrade.

What was once essentially a track along a cliff where tents and caravans would sporadically camp, the Point Gibbon Campground now features 15 designated, bookable sites.

“…there were limited spaces and where people camped really depended on how many caravan/tents etc could fit,” says Franklin Harbour Tourism Officer, Stacey Franklin.

Now, the campsite is formalised and fully equipped with toilets, with Wi-Fi is available on site and catering to campers of all ages. Stacey says “anyone who wants an awesome view of the sea” should check it out.

“The beach, sand dunes, and fishing is all at your doorstep,” says Stacey. “…they might even get a glimpse of a sea lion if they walk around the to the point.”

The campground is quite accessible, with bitumen roads transporting travellers from Cowell to Port Gibbon. The road from Port Gibbon to Point Gibbon Campground is part bitumen, then finishes with 5kms on dirt road.

While the campground is unpowered, the site is located nearby to all the necessities.

“There is a dump point, water, coin operated showers, boat ramp and playground at Port Gibbon just 5kms away. Cowell is approx. 25kms away, with all services needed (IGA, fuel, pubs etc),” says Stacey.

For only $10 per night, the campground is a bargain considering the location, surrounded by white sands, pristine waters, and untouched bushland as far as the eye can see.
