New SA brand provides perfect happy hour icebreaker with tattoo-themed seltzers

Tattoo Me Coolers use tattoos as a focal point for their drinks, providing the perfect icebreaker and opportunity to share your tattoo stories.

Hard seltzers are the latest alcoholic beverage craze making a storm across the world. From the wildly popular White Claw to mainstream beer brands, it’s pretty clear that the hard seltzer market is having a HUGE moment.

For those who may not be aware, a “hard seltzer” is an alcoholic, flavoured sparkling water. The alcohol content of most hard seltzers falls in the range of 4-6% alcohol by volume (ABV), much like a light beer. Because of their lower alcohol content, hard seltzers tend to be slightly lower in sugar and calories, when compared to other pre-mixed drinks.

Standing out from the crowd is a new South Australian brand, Tattoo Me Cooler, that is collaborating with local and international tattoo artists to decorate their new flavour collection.

Tattoo Me Cooler is the brainchild of Charlie O’Brien – son of Kangarilla Road owners, Kevin & Helen O’Brien. After growing up in the wine biz, Charlie has gone on to launch his own winery, Silent Noise Wines, in McLaren Vale, and now his own seltzer brand.

“We really wanted to have someone from South Australia to do our initial design…,” said Helen. “Simone-Clare Hede’s work from the House of Dagger Collective is quite powerful and wonderfully whimsical too.  We met and came up with the gorgeous vamp-ish Medusa, whom we refer to as Lola.”

Lola now boldly covers the beautifully perfumed Pear & Lychee seltzer. Helen continued to share how Instagram played a large role in discovering and connecting with artists.

“Instagram came to the fore as we looked for Japanese-inspired artwork and found Oscar Hove who is an artist from Barcelona, Spain,” shared Helen.

“He specialises in black and grey and works with a very Japanese aesthetic.  He does a lot of work that involves the masks from Japanese Theatre. “Koi fish are thought to be lucky in Japanese culture.  Oscar’s koi is very strong and makes a statement even without the traditional orange gold colours.

“Both Simone and Oscar were delightful to work with and their work was brought to life on the cans and cartons by Abra Remphrey of Adelaide based graphic designers Detour Design.”

Oscar’s black and white kai daringly dawns the front of Tattoo Me’s new Mandarin and Yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit) Seltzer.

Charlie and the Tattoo Me Cooler team decided to use tattoos as a focal point for their drinks because happy hour is a time for storytelling and tattoos tell a million stories. Unique tattoo stories provide the perfect icebreaker.

“We’re looking to promote our Seltzers but a big part of Tattoo Me Cooler’s purpose is to tell the very personal stories of people’s tattoos, from happy to sad to plain ridiculous.  Every tattoo has a story,” said Helen.

“We are amazed at the workmanship of so many tattoo artists – they have really become today’s rockstars with people waiting for up to a year and travelling overseas to have certain artists do their work on them.”

If you’re looking for a drink and an icebreaker at your next social gathering, the Tattoo Me Cooler stockists are listed online here.

You can also find the seltzers at the following vendors: The Warradale Hotel, The Highway Hotel, The Grange Hotel, The Morphett Arms, The Aldinga Hotel, and the Alma Hotel at Willunga.
