The ‘Thebarton cluster’ of COVID-19 cases has seen an increase with a new case.
Now totalling five, the new case is a young woman in her 20s, who is a close contact of two other individuals from the Thebarton cluster.
She is currently quarantining in the Medi-Hotel and has minimal symptoms.
SA Health’s Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier says that there are 70 close contacts to this case, who will all need to quarantine.
Within that 70 there is an overlap from the close contacts of the other students.
Close contacts will all also quarantine in the Medi-Hotel where they will have access to a full suit of facilities such as mental health support.
“We do not have community transmission in SA right now, which is why we’re being extra cautious,” Professor Spurrier says.
Thebarton Senior College will be closed, and the 1100 staff and students, considered casual contacts, are urged to self-isolate.
More to come.
