Have you ever fantasized about traversing the African savannah, surrounded by free-roaming wildlife, all from the comfort of an open-sided vehicle? This dream is now a thrilling reality, and you don’t need to go to Africa thanks to Monarto Safari Park’s new Wild Africa precinct.
Launching just in time for the summer season, this unique opportunity gives visitors a sneak peek of what’s to come, and allows guests to be among the first to experience the wild and witness the beginnings of what promises to be an extraordinary resort.
Imagine an adventure that feels like it’s straight out of an African wildlife reserve brochure. Spanning 63 hectares, the park offers tours in specially designed safari vehicles. Guests will find themselves amidst herds of rhinos, antelopes, giraffes, and Scimitar-horned Oryx, roaming freely in vast landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see.
Peter Clark, the Director of Monarto Safari Park, expressed his excitement about the public’s first foray into Wild Africa. “There’s nothing quite like taking in the vast plains of Wild Africa and listening to the sounds of animals grazing just metres away, and we can’t wait to share this unique experience with the public,” he said. He emphasised the park’s pride in replicating a natural habitat where different species coexist, just as they would in the wild.
An exclusive highlight of the tour is the hippo habitat within Wild Africa, home to new female hippos Pansy and Brindabella. Clark reminisced about the community’s fond memories of hippos Brutus and Susie, who were the grandparents of the new additions to the zoo. “We know many people in the community hold fond memories of hippos Brutus and Susie who called Adelaide Zoo home for more than 45 years and it will be great to see the community create new memories on our safari tours with Brindabella and Pansy,” he said.
Adventure-seekers have two first-look safari options. They can embark on the Safari Adventure Tour aboard new 22-seater safari trucks or opt for a more intimate experience with the Premium Safari Adventure Tour in brand-new 9-seater Safari Landcruisers. Both tours include a morning tea, with the Premium Tour offering an additional close encounter with one of Australia’s largest Ring-tailed Lemur troops.
Peter Clark highlighted the uniqueness of the experience, saying, “As the largest safari experience outside of Africa, our safari trucks and open-sided Safari Landcruisers take the experience to the next level.”
The Safari Adventure Tour and Premium Safari Adventure Tour are currently available for a limited time before the official opening of the Wild Africa Resort. This venture presents a rare opportunity for locals and tourists alike to immerse themselves in an African-like safari experience, right in the heart of South Australia. Monarto Safari Park’s initiative not only brings a slice of African wilderness to Australia but also promises to create lasting memories and new connections with the natural world.
