Over the weekend, the grand opening of “Acai Affair” which is a self-serve Acai bar located in Hyde Park, saw locals try out the newest craze to hit SA.
The brainchild of husband-and-wife team Imran and Sneha Budhani, who may be familiar faces to some due to their previous venture “Coco Cacao” in Henley Beach, Acai Affair promises a unique dining experience centered on health and well-being.
Imran and Sneha, both with almost a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, decided it was time for a new business venture that promotes healthy living.
“We love hospitality, we love interacting with people, we just wanted something a bit healthier and simple,” Imran explains.
Their inspiration for Acai Affair came from their shared love for Acai berries, known for their rich nutritional profile. Acai berries are native to South America and are packed with antioxidants, healthy fats, and a wide range of vitamins and minerals. What sets Acai Affair apart is its focus on pure acai without added sugars or Guarana, making it suitable for kids and health-conscious individuals.
Imran emphasises their commitment to providing the community with pure acai, saying, “What we are focusing on is bringing pure acai to the community, we want to give knowledge to the community about acai as well. It has no artificial flavours or colours, it has a pure acai flavour, it is free from lactose and gluten and is 100% vegan.”
One of the highlights of Acai Affair is its self-serve concept, adding an element of fun to the dining experience. Imran believes that this concept helps people “feel like they’re at home” at Acai Affair, where they can create and enjoy their meals at their own pace.
The menu at Acai Affair includes a range of toppings divided into ‘naughty’ and ‘nice’ sections. The ‘nice’ section offers healthful options like granola, chia seeds, and fresh fruits, while the ‘naughty’ section indulges sweet cravings with treats such as chocolates, lollies, and Oreo cookies.
Acai Affair aims to cater to everyone in the community, from young kids to parents. In addition to acai bowls, they offer a variety of ‘super smoothies,’ including plant-based green and protein smoothies. For those in need of a caffeine fix, the bar serves a selection of coffees and hot beverages, and frozen yogurt options are sure to be a hit with kids.
The aesthetics of Acai Affair mirror its ethos—vibrant and refreshing. Adorned in soft pastel hues of purple and mint, the establishment features a selfie wall for capturing memories and a games corner, ensuring that families and groups of friends can find both fun and delicious food under one roof.
