New sensory and nature playground opens in Two Wells

Two Wells Freedom Playground features a giant treehouse, windmill, climbing frames, water play, sandpit, barnyard play equipment and slides.

South Australian families can experience the best in nature and sensory play at the state’s newest playground, which has opened in the northern suburbs.

The new playground, Freedom Park, within Liberty at Two Wells is the latest milestone in a $1.2 billion residential precinct that is creating over 3,000 new homes for South Australians.

Offering more than 10,000 square metres of community space, the rurally-themed modern park includes a leading edge nature playground, life-sized chessboard, table tennis table, BBQs, shelters, walking trails and open kickabout spaces.

The playground features a giant treehouse, windmill, climbing frames, water play, sandpit, barnyard play equipment and slides.

The Park has been developed for the Two Wells community by Land Australia, part of the Hickinbotham Group – who is the largest and longest established building and development group in South Australia.

“We have been pleased to deliver this major residential precinct at Two Wells which has fast become a thriving neighbourhood,” said Hickinbotham Group Managing Director Mr Michael Hickinbotham.

“Our investment aligns with a commitment to create jobs, homes and an aspirational lifestyle for South Australian families.”

Liberty Freedom Park forms part of the Liberty development, a new residential community on the edge of the historic Two Wells township.

A freedom theme was chosen for Liberty estate to honour the fathers and mothers who fought for Freedom. In keeping with this theme, Liberty Freedom Park features quotes scattered throughout by Thomas Jefferson and Mark Twain to name a few.

Liberty and its neighbouring Eden development are part of a combined $1.2 billion investment by the Hickinbotham Group to build more than 3,000 homes and create more than 3,000 jobs in the region over the next 20 years and support projected population growth.

It is also home to Xavier College’s Two Wells campus which will grow from 187 students enrolled this year to 400 students in 2022.

“Approximately 300 families live at Liberty and Eden. As well as providing a great place for families to live, we want to provide a great place for families to play,” said Mr Hickinbotham.

“We have adopted leading-edge concepts in nature and sensory play stemming from Professor Fraser Mustard, who was a former thinker in residence in South Australia.”

“A lot of play spaces, they wrap kids in cotton wool … it’s not helpful for kids; it’s an impediment to their learning.

“It’s lovely when you create a space that helps people connect and that includes kids as well as parents.”

Minister for Planning and Local Government, Vickie Chapman, said this project is a huge vote of confidence in South Australia, and its population potential.

“For the first time in 30 years, we have reversed in the ‘brain drain’, with more people coming into the State than out,” said Chapman.

“This means more people are choosing to live, work and raise a family in Adelaide – Australia’s most liveable city.”

Chapman further states the Liberty project supports the Government’s vision, whilst creating local jobs in the Northern region.

Liberty Freedom Park is located on Jefferson Boulevard, Two Wells. The land is priced from $197,500 for a 492m2 block, with house and land packages starting at $365,200

The Hickinbotham Group is the largest and longest established building and development group in South Australia, having constructed 40,000 homes and employing, directly and indirectly, more than 4,000 people.

It has been the largest residential building group in South Australia for 17 years.
