New six-months-old wine producers win two trophies for national and state-wide awards

Small Victories Wine Co are ones to watch and definitely sip having already won trophies after launching only 6 months ago.

Small Victories Wine Co are the newest kids joining the accolade of glorious wine producers in SA. Their wines are ones to watch and definitely sip having already won trophies after launching only 6 months ago.

Sisters-in-law Jules and Bec Ashmead, the brains behind the brand, said they were left speechless on December 2 when Small Victories Wine Co won trophies at wine show presentations in two different states.

The 2021 Small Victories Vermentino won the trophy for Best Single Varietal White at the national Melbourne Royal Wine Awards while the 2021 Small Victories Pinot Gris won the trophy for Best Pinot Gris at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show.

The Small Victories Vermentino is vibrant and fruity with notes of citrus on the nose and palate. This makes it the perfect wine for pairing with foods that you would normally squeeze some lemon or lime onto – think fish and chips, guacamole, stir-fry and more.

The Small Victories Pinot Gris is textural and zesty with a savoury finish. A classic food pairing would be to enjoy Pinot Gris with fish, but the ladies from Small Victories also suggest sushi or a cheese platter with all the trimmings.

“We are elated to receive such recognition for our wines,” Jules said.

“Bec and I embarked on this project to create wines that are fun, fresh and just really delicious, yet still with technical prowess, so to receive these awards is a fabulous testament to our approach.

“Thanks must go to the grape growers from who we sourced the fruit. To Ash Ratcliff and David Kohl, thank you for producing such quality fruit for us to work with. For our partnership with Ash (Ricca Terra Farms) especially, this shows great respect to premium fruit that is produced in the Riverland.”

Bec said they are proud to celebrate the diversity and quality of grapes grown by other South Australian families.

“Our grape growers are real people with a passion for what they do,” Bec said.

“Find the postcode on the label – this is where the grapes are from.”

As well as being sisters-in-law, Jules and Bec are also running buddies and great friends, and have worked together in wine for over twelve years, so know all about amazing wine.

In 2020 they decided it was time to team up and make a range of wines that they and their friends love to drink – wines that are fun, fresh and modern; wines that are ready to drink right now; wines that are just seriously delicious. And so, the duo launched Small Victories Wine Co in August this year.

All the wines are vegan friendly, and with every wine purchase you are making a difference as Jules and Bec donate a portion of each bottle sold to two charities: Variety – the Children’s Charity and Trees For Life.

Small Victories Wine Co wines are available direct from their website, or from their pop-up cellar door in Nuriootpa. A permanent cellar door is currently under construction, slated for opening in February, and will be co-located with Elderton Wines which is also owned by the Ashmead family.
