New Stan series with Game of Thrones actor announced for SA

New Stan Original series ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ set to begin production in South Australia, injecting over 3.6 m into the local economy.

In an exciting development for the Australian entertainment industry, production for the upcoming Stan Original series, ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ will soon commence production in South Australia.

The eight-episode series boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Sherry-Lee Watson, known for her role in ‘Heartbreak High’, Will McDonald, also from ‘Heartbreak High’ and ‘Young Rock’, Miranda Otto, acclaimed for her performances in ‘The Clearing’, ‘Talk To Me’, and the Stan Original Film ‘The Portable Door’, as well as the versatile Noah Taylor, recognised for his roles in ‘Peaky Blinders’and ‘Game of Thrones’.

Supported by the Malinauskas Government through the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), this project promises to inject over $3.6 million into the local economy and generate 89 job opportunities for South Australians across various roles, including extras, cast, and crew.

While production has already begun in the Northern Territory, ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ is set to make its way to South Australia soon. The series will unfold against the backdrop of a 1980s road trip from Alice Springs to Adelaide, promising viewers a visual feast of distinctive South Australian landscapes and locations.

The heart of the series lies in its narrative, which revolves around Robyn (portrayed by Sherry-Lee Watson), a young Aboriginal woman embarking on a quest to uncover a mysterious family secret. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she escapes from detention and forms an unlikely alliance with the socially awkward teenager, Gidge (played by Will McDonald). Together, they flee their small central desert community, embarking on a perilous odyssey across the outback. Along the way, they unearth answers and gain valuable life experiences.

Steering the creative direction of ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ is AACTA Award-winning filmmaker Dylan River, who also serves as co-creator alongside AACTA Award-winning executive producer Tanith Glynn-Maloney. Their combined expertise promises to deliver a series that captivates and resonates with audiences.

The series is produced by the acclaimed Ludo Studio, known for its multiple Emmy and BAFTA Awards, and led by Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson (famous for ‘Bluey’ and ‘Robbie Hood’), along with Sophie Miller (‘The Family Law’) and producer Sam Moor (‘Bluey’) from Since1778 Productions.

‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ has garnered significant production investment from Screen Australia, with additional support from the South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Territory, and Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital, and Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive, reflecting the industry’s enthusiasm for this remarkable project.

Andrea Michaels, speaking on behalf of the production, expressed her excitement, saying, ‘It’s very exciting to have a major Stan Original series like “Thou Shalt Not Steal” coming to South Australia. It speaks volumes about the remarkable skill and creativity of our screen sector, alongside the incredible locations we have on offer in South Australia, that we continue to see a pipeline of major productions taking place in our state.’

SAFC CEO Kate Croser also shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The SAFC is delighted to welcome Stan back to South Australia for ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal,’ the latest exciting series to come from our successful production partnership following international hit series ‘The Tourist’ and feature films ‘Gold’ and ‘A Sunburnt Christmas.’

As ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ unfolds its captivating story against the backdrop of South Australia’s picturesque landscapes, it promises to be a significant addition to Australia’s burgeoning entertainment industry and an engaging journey for audiences to look forward to.
