A new ‘super taxi rank’ opens in Hindley Street tonight, helping people get into and out of the city’s West End safely and efficiently.

City of Adelaide staff have been working with Taxi Council SA, the Rosemont Hotel and SAPOL to develop the city’s longest taxi rank, which will be managed on Friday and Saturday nights.

Nine taxi ranking spaces will be available from 11:00pm to 6:00am, with an additional three spaces allocated on the street purely for drop-offs and pick-ups.

On Fridays and Saturdays, Taxi Council SA will provide a concierge service for customers and the Rosemont Hotel will provide security. Council encourages other local venues to contribute in the future.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said that the aim of the new rank is to give visitors to the city an easy method to get
home after their night out, while not having to wait too long.

“Our city is growing and with this growth comes more visitors and an increasing night time economy that is
seeing more people enjoy the city at night,” said Martin.

“It is important that we ensure these people have easy access to transport to get home or move along to
another venue in the West End or elsewhere.

“This large rank will contribute to a reduction in the frustration that can come with waiting for a taxi and it is
good news from a safety perspective when customers have quicker and better access to taxis.

“We greatly appreciate the Taxi Council and Rosemont Hotel’s support in managing the rank on the busiest
nights of the week when people are still heading home in the early hours of the morning.”

Taxi Council SA President Jim Triantafyllou was thrilled the collaboration with City of Adelaide has come to
fruition for the benefit of South Australian taxi passengers.

“Our industry is all about getting people home and away safely and efficiently, and the Hindley Street ‘superrank’
will enable us to do that even better in one of the busiest parts of the city.”

The rank has come into operation following the closure of HQ Nightclub in West Terrace and the opening of Q Nightclub in Hindley Street.

A limited amount of parking spaces will be out of use overnight while the taxi rank is in operation. Loading zones
and parking will remain the same from 6:00am to 11:00pm.
