New sushi train, Ebisu Sushi, serves up Asian-fusion favourites in Glenelg

Originally establishing itself in Mawson Lakes over 3 years ago, Ebisu Sushi has opened its second location on Jetty Road Glenelg.

For many of us, there is a constant search for our new favourite restaurant. Whether it be a chain, a hole in the wall or something new that no one has ever heard about, the hunt is always on.

Ebisu Sushi has introduced itself to the City of Holdfast Bay hoping to serve up something a little different to its loyal customer base.

Originally establishing itself in Mawson Lakes over 3 years ago, Ebisu Sushi has opened its second location on Jetty Road Glenelg.

Finding inspiration when visiting Australia, Owner Kimmy found herself shocked by the sheer number of sushi trains available in Oz.

“Coming from owning a sushi restaurant in Canada and then coming to Australia for the warm weather, I didn’t expect to see so many sushi trains. I saw it as a challenge that I’d like to take up,” Kimmy said.

Taking the large-scale sushi trains in Melbourne and Sydney, Kimmy was able to gain inspiration and see what could be done with her and Head Chef Rose’s plans in Adelaide.

After the success of its Mawson Lakes store, the search for a beachside location began and Glenelg happened to be the perfect fit.

“We were looking for a beach area now that the sun is coming out and we’ve already been really happy with the reception we’ve had since our opening three weeks ago,” Kimmy said.

The sushi train style of the restaurant may be familiar but the contents of Ebisu Sushi’s menu may surprise you. From hot pots to sashimi to pork buns to sushi tacos to traditional sushi, there’s something on the menu for everyone to enjoy.

The Glenelg location sets itself apart from the Mawson Lakes location with new industrial lighting and a refreshing shop fit full of neutral tones and brightness. The almost Sonic the Hedgehog ring lights entice foot traffic to enter without hesitation.

“It’s quite different to our Mawson Lakes store with the colouring, light fixtures and the bifold windows,” Kimmy said.

The sushi train has a generous capacity of 45 with the ability to order on an iPad or through the friendly staff.

The passionate team at Ebisu Sushi hopes to introduce a grab-and-go option for those with busy schedules wanting something on hand and cater for those who would prefer takeaway.

With many plans in the pipeline, Ebisu Sushi is definitely one to watch out for.
