Goodwood Road is back at it again, with the newest tapas and wine bar in the inner south set to open 7 July.
Coming from the French term for a vineyard is Cru Tapas Bar & Kitchen – taking over the old L’Atelier site at 135C Goodwood Road will re-inject the space with the foodie lifestyle that we all love.
This will be seasoned hospitality wizard and owner Martin Ardill’s first solo venture after managing the likes of Tasca Viva Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant and the Glenelg Golf Club. Having grown up in his parent’s restaurant and finding his own passion for the grazing, shared-style of dining, Cru seemed like a no-brainer.
“The Cru atmosphere will be soulful and lively, music will play, wine will flow and the staff will be friendly and interactive.” says Ardill.
“The menu is not themed in any particular style or heritage, most people think Tapas is strictly Spanish, but that’s not always the case. Cru is all about sharing and we will introduce dishes from various regions with focus on the basics; freshness, flavour, value for money and good service”.
On the drinks front it looks like coffee from locals, Sublime Coffee Roasters, alongside a range of the quirky yet sessionable Stockade Brewing craft beers along with some of the other usual suspects. Cru will also have strong wine focus (naturally) to compliment the menu.
Think salt n’ pepper squid, patatas bravas and pork and veal albondigas (meatballs). Oh! And braised beef ribs in smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce with a charred sweet corn, black bean and jalapeño salsa which we think will certainly fill our undying urge for “comfort food” right now. There will also be a spot for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.
On the weekeneds, Cru will cater for the breakfast crowd with a mix of classic and non-traditional dishes. We’re told there will be a great range of gourmet toasties, jaffles and grazing platters.
