FIRST LOOK: Tasting Room, Cellar Door And Restaurant Now Open In The Clare Valley

When visiting Pikes Wines you can now see the stunning new building which will act as a side by side restaurant, cellar door and tasting room.

A Clare Valley Winery has launched a new state-of-the-art tasting room and restaurant. When visiting Pikes Wines you can now see the stunning new building which will act as a side by side restaurant, cellar door and tasting room.

Pikes Polish Hill River Estate and the entire Polish Hill River Valley sit on an ancient bed of slate which was laid down more than 500 million years ago in the Neoproterozoic era. The collaborative efforts of architect, Greg Pulford, builders SJM Builders and Interior Designer Claire Kneebone ensure that SLATE is a venue to be excited about.

Max Stephenson has been appointed Head Chef and joins SLATE with a great amount of experience having worked in hatted restaurant ‘The Source’ at MONA as Executive Sous Chef for 5 years. Restaurant Manager, Nicole Ramsey, also joins from the Barossa Valley where she had been working with Stuart Oldfield at Hand Made Catering and Musque Food & Wine.

SLATE Restaurant will offer a contemporary Modern Australian menu that draws influence from various Mediterranean cuisines and will focus on locally and ethically grown produce to supplement Estate Grown produce from their extensive Kitchen Garden.

There is an abundance of fantastic local producers that we are looking forward to working with. Fresh homegrown fruit and vegetables from Doug Slugget in Sevenhill, grass fed, ethically raised lamb from Wunderbar in Black Springs, fresh Oysters from Pacific Estate Oysters in Stansbury, and locally grown mushrooms from Little Bunyip in Watervale, just to name a few.

A dedicated art space within SLATE Restaurant will feature renowned Mintaro Contemporary Artist Jen McDonald, and a beautiful vista awaits diners overlooking the rolling vineyards of the Polish Hill River Estate.

There will also be an alfresco dining area whilst the new Cellar Door will provide groups of up to 25 to private functions and tutored tastings of their reserve and museum wines.

The Wine List will naturally feature the full range of Pikes wines and will include a back vintage selection of reserve and museum wines available from the SLATE Cellar.

Pikes Beer Company beers will be available on tap, and a small super premium range of spirits will complete the beverage offering.

The new facility connects with the existing Pike Beer Company brewery and includes a new Beer Garden that will offer a casual dining option available 7 days per week.
