A new chapter will unfold for Vintage Longbottom wines this September when they unveil their new tasting room ‘This is Not a Book Club’ in Dulwich.

Vintage Longbottom is led by mother-daughter duo Kim and Margo Longbottom and their wines are lovingly handcrafted from the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale.

“We were looking at how we would develop our wine club and we were talking about the success of book clubs and what makes book clubs so successful, and I said it is because its not about the books, it is about the wine, the camaraderies, so I said why not call it ‘This is Not a Book Club,'” Kim says.

“It is a base for us, it is a space where we can host media and trade tastings, and also have get togethers and do competitive set tastings with industry mates.

“It is really to build local community and do a bit more direct consumer sales and provide that kind of little hub where people can come for an after work drink or a pre dinner drink. It is not going to be a late night venue. We will be pouring our wines by the glass and we may introduce a couple of cocktails.”

Kim described the space as a community hub, and platter food consisting of local produce will be served for guests to enjoy alongside their wines.

“We just wanted to keep it really simple so we weren’t in the kitchen area, but rather out chatting to our customers and friends,” Kim says.

“It is somewhere you can get a great glass of wine and a cocktail and some food, we wanted it to be really relaxed and welcoming and focusing on local produce. That is kind of our company motto, we are not only a wine producer, but we are all about bringing people together and building community,” she says.

Kim says they have extended their liquor licence which will expand their offerings to include beverages such as sparkling wine and beer.

The shopfront was previously a florist and it had caught Kim’s eyes for some time, as she could see the potential for a tasting room blooming.

“I love this little shopfront. I had been driving past it for years and thinking I’d love to do a tasting room there. We just wanted to do something suburban and we have always lived close by,” Kim says.

The interior exudes a French wine bar vibe and the duo have kept things quite minimal with a table that seats 12 people so as not to clutter the small space.

“We are very excited about it, and we are going to be selling a few little providore items as well, so it is the things we like that we want to share with you. Everything we do in here is like an extension of our home; it is everything we like to eat and drink is what we are offering our guests,” Kim says.

“We like to keep things simple, so it is all about good food, good wine and good company.”
