NEW: Tile Foundry handmade tiled furnishings

The Tile Foundry which started as a hobby has now turned into a full-time hustle designing and creating unique handmade tiled furnishings.

The owner of food cult-fave  “Cheeky Greek” Tony Yialas has a new hustle.

After opening Cheeky Greek in Grange in 2015, cooking up meats over charcoal and using his grandfather’s recipe; a combo that’s proved more than successful.

Both stores constantly have lines out the front door, and to this day, they still sell out on occasion, but for owner Tony, there is more to life than Yiros and chips.

Tony Yialas has opened his own handmade tiled furnishings business.

The Tile Foundry which started as a hobby for the hospitality veteran has now turned into a full-time hustle designing and creating unique handmade tiled furnishings such as coffee tables, hall stands, wall plaques and mosaic logos.

Tony’s desire to enter the carpentry industry came from a desire to work with his hands.

“After years of fast-paced hospitality work I decided to dust my tools off and take some time out to work with my hands again,” he said.

My “workshop is very quiet and peaceful, and producing these beautiful items from start to finish is rewarding.”

Tiled finishes have boomed in popularity over the past few years becoming increasingly common within home and business decor due to the ever-expanding range of colours, textures and designs.

Tony has found great joy and success in his new venture, especially with his logo mosaics.

“Another popular mosaic is my hand-cut corporate/business logos.”

“I’ve always had an eye for detail in tiling in my previous profession. With this I have brought with me flair, passion and creativity. I love nothing more than producing something unique for people to cherish forever.”

Whilst the Yiros king has stepped away from the kitchen for the moment he still enjoys a Cheeky Greek from time to time.
