New wine label with cheeky name helping founder live out his dream

Under the slightly risqué title of Pigs Arse, this new wine label is sure to get people’s attention.

Farm Yard Wines is a new South Australian wine label made by a former SA employment ombudsman, Gary Collis who wanted to have a go at starting a wine label.

Under the slightly risqué title Pigs Arse, Gary says that the label is sure to get people’s attention but he really doesn’t know where the name came from.

“I get asked that a lot (where the name came from) and I have no idea,” he says.

He went on to say it’s probably just his love for Australian slang after migrating from England when he was 16.

Also to thank for the wine label is Gary’s wife who gifted him time with a marketing expert to get into the nitty gritty of what the label would be.

At the moment Pigs Arse wines has two wines, firstly a Shiraz, and now a Sauvignon Blanc which is a recent addition to the line-up.

Gary is currently working out of the Charleston Hotel whilst the wine label is just starting out, but he’s already got orders from interstate and it’s in a number of venues in Adelaide and surrounds including Electra House and the Mt Torrens Hotel.

Gary stressed that he was by no means an experienced winemaker or even a part of the wine industry until recently but don’t worry he’s been taken under the wing of experienced winemakers and has produced a quality drop.

“If you’re working all day listening to people’s problems it can get a bit heavy but when you get home and pour yourself a wine and put labels on it brings back a bit of fun.”

At the end of our chat, Gary left us with some words of wisdom.

“You’re never too old mate, you’re never too old to live a dream.”
