If you’re looking for a truly remarkable dining experience this summer, whether it be for that special occasion or weekend escape, then the launch of Bird in Hand winery’s new restaurant, LVN, needs to be at the top of your list.

Located in the scenic Adelaide Hills, LVN combines artistic creation with the finest wine and cuisine and is set to make its grand debut on January 14th.

Under the lead of Executive Chef Jacob Davey, formerly of Adelaide’s three-hatted Restaurant Botanic, along with winery co-founder Andrew Nugent, LVN Restaurant promises an ever-evolving menu paying homage to Bird in Hand’s diverse origins across Woodside (Peramangk), Finniss (Ngarrindjeri), and Tasmania (Paredareme).

‘I’m inspired by the farmers, the producers, the fishers and the seasons and micro-seasons of Adelaide Hills and our kitchen garden’, Davey says. ‘My aim [at LVN] is to weave all of this together to create a world-class experience.’

This cultural infusion serves as the cornerstone of a culinary journey, bridging regional flavours and local produce into an 8-10 course tasting menu, accompanied by delightful snacks curated from the winery’s kitchen garden and the bountiful surroundings of Adelaide Hills and Seymour, Tasmania, with many of the native ingredients showcased having been foraged by Indigenous elders for generations.

Some of the produce set to appear on the menu includes mutton bird and wallaby native to northern Tasmania, pipis and coastal fruits from the south of Adelaide, and sheoak and kangaroo from the Adelaide Hills. Some of Bird in Hand’s rare museum wines will also feature at LVN, which have been carefully curated by senior winemakers and made available exclusively to restaurant guests.

This culinary spectacle unfolds within the newly reimagined space, with art a core focus of the dining experience. LVN has a spacious interior and abundant natural lighting, which serves as a backdrop to a collection of original works by cutting-edge Australian and International artists.

‘We believe wine is a connector to art, design and culture, bringing together people to share moments of happiness and joy’, says Andrew Nugent, co-founder Bird in Hand. ‘This translates beautifully in the new restaurant space.’

The LVN Restaurant complements the completions of Bird in Hand’s recent cellar door makeover earlier this year. After almost three years of closure, the cellar door re-opened in February, having undergone a significant transformation, offering visitors an immersive experience through a private tasting room, terraced garden, and now, the new LVN Restaurant.

Embracing the legacy of Bird in Hand’s founders, Andrew and Susie Nugent, the restaurant derives its name from the spirited initials of their daughter, Lalla Victoria Nugent, also the name given to the winemakers’ prestigious pinnacle cuvée slated for release in 2027.

LVN Restaurant embodies sophistication and culinary finesse and aligns with Bird in Hand’s commitment to sustainability and environmental respect.

The estate, which is located on 80 fertile acres, benefits from the cultural influences of the Gulf of St. Vincent and the cloud cover provided by the Mount Lofty Ranges—creating the perfect conditions for grape cultivation.

In addition to its delightful food and wine offerings, Bird in Hand is known to host spectacular events, including concerts, art and dining experiences, attracting celebrities like Brooke Shields, fashion guru Alexa Chung, actress Laura Dern and the Beckhams, all of whom have been spotted enjoying a sip or two of Bird in Hand’s finest.
