Laugh Lounge, known for hosting some of the best laughs in town, is set to relocate to its new “forever” home on Rundle Street.
Owned by the comedy aficionado Ilya Lawson, Laugh Lounge has been a cornerstone of the local comedy scene for over a decade. This exciting move is set to provide comedy enthusiasts with a bigger, better, and more vibrant venue.
Laugh Lounge’s journey began in 2012, starting upstairs within the Elephant British pub before finding a home in Rundle Mall during Covid. Now, the club is ready to conquer the hearts of Adelaide’s East End with its new residence on Rundle Street.
Ilya Lawson, the owner of Laugh Lounge, has been an integral part of the local comedy scene for over 17 years, both as a performer and presenter.
When asked about the move, he shared, “The reason we wanted to move is it’s a better location for us; we were outgrowing where we were. The Rundle Mall premises has only known covid times, and the reality is we’ve outgrown the facilities, and we’re bringing in even better artists.”
The new Laugh Lounge promises to be a hub of laughter and entertainment, offering pre-booked Live Stand-Up Comedy Shows featuring the best local, interstate, and international comedians, as well as emerging talents.
With the new and improved venue guests will be able to enjoy a variety of cocktails and an upgraded food menu (and and outside) while relishing the humour served up on stage.
Lawson revealed exciting plans for the upcoming Adelaide Fringe Festival. “We have roughly 37 artists for Fringe, with 144 sessions over the five weeks of Fringe. We’re also gearing for a special New Year’s show and dedicated comedians for football enthusiasts during the Gathered Round,” he said.
The new venue will accommodate more people with its spacious setting, allowing for a wider range of entertainment options.
“It’s like a New York-style comedy bar, intimate with little groups close to the stage. Now, we’ll also be opening up more nights from Thursday to Sunday, including open-mic nights, magicians, and even comedians who love slam poetry,” Lawson said.
One of the most exciting aspects of this move is the intention for Laugh Lounge to make Rundle Street its “forever” home.
“Especially with the Fringe opening up in the East End, it’s great. Five years and beyond are hard to guarantee, but for us, it’s exciting because we’re moving to one of the busiest parts of Adelaide for the arts. It also shows that we’re growing, even against the odds of Covid. We’ve had nearly over 3700 people just on Saturday nights and during Fringe alone, so here’s to many more coming through now,” Lawson says.
The new venue will be approximately three times the size of the previous location, allowing for more guests to enjoy the laughter. Additionally, Laugh Lounge is gearing up for Christmas group bookings in December and is expecting to open its doors at the start of the month.
With its new “forever” home on Rundle Street, Laugh Lounge is set to become an even more prominent fixture in Adelaide’s comedy and entertainment scene, promising a fantastic experience for both loyal fans and newcomers. Get ready to laugh your heart out as this beloved comedy club embarks on its exciting new chapter.
