Newly revamped Marion Outdoor Pool opens for Spring/Summer season

Marion Outdoor Pool opens for 2023/24 season with new features that include a splash park complete with 4 waterslides.

The newly upgraded Marion Outdoor Pool has officially reopened its gates for the 2023/24 season, just in time for the warm weather of Spring/Summer and the October school holidays.

The pool, recognised as one of Adelaide’s premier outdoor pool facilities, is now open after its recent makeover as of Tuesday, October 3rd (operating from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekdays), and presents an exciting, fun-filled location for children and families to enjoy a day out together.

The upgraded location boasts expansive grassed areas that provide ample shade, a selection of three pools, and the introduction of two brand-new slides, both commencing from a 10m platform set to be a hit for adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers.

The green, white, and blue new Twist Slide offers a distinctive 15 m enclosed tunnel adorned with vibrant translucent bands, which then transition into an open-air anti-clockwise spiral slide. Meanwhile, the new yellow Speed Slide provides a rapid descent, almost mirroring a vertical drop, for those who want a heart-racing experience with a spectacular splash finale.

Highlighting the transformative journey of this 46-year-old pool, The City of Marion has invested significant efforts to evolve it into the largest outdoor water park in Southern Adelaide. Some of the new features include a splash park with a monumental 9.2 m high x 20 m wide centrepiece, four water slides, a 600-litre tipping bucket, and playful water cannons. Along with this, there’s a 59 sqm splash pad with a safe non-slip surface, water jets, and interactive features.

Furthermore, the expansion of the site by 1800 sqm has allowed for an inviting family area that includes three new BBQ facilities, newly landscaped picnic areas and three new shade structures where visitors can relax, as well as new play and gym equipment. To ensure inclusivity, new paths have been designed for easy accessibility, coupled with disability-access drinking fountains.

A testament to its commitment to excellence, the pool has undergone several improvements over the past three years, with construction led by Australian company Swimplex, including refurbishments to the change rooms, kiosk, augmented shade and storage areas, an upgraded car park, and a restructured foyer and administration section. The entirety of this three-year project was backed by an investment of $4.5 million, with the council generously allocating $4.35 million and the State Government contributing $150,000.

Since opening on 24 January 1976, the Marion Outdoor Pool has consistently provided fun-filled recreational experiences for the whole family. Whether you want to book in for Aqua Aerobics classes, enrol the kids in swim school, or host your next children’s birthday party at the facility, the Marion Outdoor Pool has a lot to offer all via their website.

This Spring/Summer season, with its revamped features and rich history, the pool welcomes visitors for a refreshing dip or sunkissed day with friends and family. Whether it’s for a swim, a BBQ, or just an excuse to get the kids outside and away from the screens, the Marion Outdoor Pool promises a cannonball of fun!
