SA Health provide update following escalating Victorian COVID situation

Premier Steven Marshall has just addressed the SA public and said they’re doing everything they can to expand the testing sites that are available, following a massive surge in demand for tests.

He has spoken with health officals, and will continue to flex the hours available at testing sites over the coming days to meet the demand.

Yesterday saw a fast 10 hour turnaround for results, which the Premier praised.

Professor Nicola Spurrier said there’s good news for SA today with no new cases. There was a high level of tests undergone in SA yesterday and 124 people have been directed to quarantine, with majority home quarantining. 104 of these people have already returned a negative result.

Some 50,000 texts from SA Health have been sent out thus far, to people who filled in a border declaration form, with 20,000 responses at last count.

Spurrier expressed how easy the survey is to complete, and the importance of completing it to aid health officials in keeping South Australians safe.

Overall, there are still three active cases of COVID in SA, all overseas acquired, which brings the states total to 752 cases.

Spurrier has sent through a request sent to the commonwealth for all testing to include asymptomatic people. Opening up more testing sites should reduce long wait times that have reached up to 3 hours at sites such as Victoria Park.
