Nonna’s Cucina, a not-for-profit meal delivery service, has relocated to Holden Hill, establishing a suburban home base and cafe to support community members in staying independent for longer.
“We’re a charity organisation, and our core business is delivering meals to the homes of elderly people,” shared a spokesperson from Nonna’s Cucina.
“We have recently moved from Royal Park to Holden Hill. We spent all of last year refurbishing the old courthouse, and we’ve turned it from four courtrooms to three commercial kitchens, and a new cafe space that we’re looking forward to opening in the next couple of weeks.”
After running out of space at their old facility, the Nonna’s Cucina team have been on the lookout for somewhere new for the past couple of years. After purchasing this space at the end of 2023 and spending most of 2024 renovating it, they officially moved in November 2024.
Still to come is the cafe, which will serve the general public and have a range of tasty Italian treats, cakes, and coffees on offer. In the space, Nonna’s Cucina will also be able to hold functions, book meeting rooms, and even host lunches. With a keen focus on their elderly clientele, the revenue from the cafe will go straight back into the service.
At the heart of Nonna’s Cucina are the nearly 100 volunteers, who generously work on the road and behind the scenes.
“Most of our volunteers are actually on the road delivering meals. We’ve got a couple of drop-off points in Lockleys and Firle, and we distribute the meals there for the volunteers to pick up, and then they get hand-delivered to our client’s homes.”
If becoming a volunteer driver is of interest to you, note that you’ll use your own car to deliver meals to clients between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm on weekdays. Volunteers are provided with a volunteer allowance to help cover the costs of using their own vehicles.
“We’re always looking for more drivers and driver assistance, so you don’t have to drive but you can go onboard and help with the deliveries.”
Whether you’re searching for a cozy coffee spot or inspired to volunteer, Nonna’s Cucina is a place where community and care come together.
