Noori café & bar is the newest hideout down South

A new hidden café and bar has hit Port Noarlunga, bringing a thoughtfully curated wine list to the south, alongside their signature cheese toasties.

Following the launch of 50s retro bar, Fleet Street Social, in Port Noarlunga, another gorgeous café, bar and “hideout” is entering the coastal town’s bar scene.

Set to open on Wednesday 28 September, Noori promises to “speak to the love of locals” and highlight SA (and international) producers through their selection of bites and extensive wine list.

Tucked away like a hidden gem at the end of an alleyway, the thoughtful design and intimate setting plays with warmth and charm to create a space for friends to unwind and settle in for the night, away from the outside world.

Jacob Barter, the hospitality enthusiast behind the bar, draws from his global experience and time spent working with local venues and producers to bring a wealth of knowledge, along with a great story behind each carefully selected wine, spirit and beer.

The bar menu is driven by Annika Berlingieri, a respected chef in the Mclaren Vale food scene, who was recently brought on to assist Aldinga’s Silver Sands Beach Club develop their menu.

Annika takes influence from Spanish cuisine and champions small plates designed to accompany great drinks. Together, the team has curated their signature cheese toastie.

“We have built what I feel could be the best damn cheese toastie on the market,” says Jacob. There will also be a seasonally changing range of share plates – think pintxos, beef tartare and Gazander oysters.

The origin of the made-up word “Noori” was inspired initially from the crazy idea of opening a Japanese Whiskey bar and calling it Nori (Japanese seaweed). Later, Jacob was then watching the iconic movie Storm Boy, where the Ngarrindjeri people of the Coorong refer to pelicans as No-ri. Jacob realised the location where pelicans migrate north from the Coorong is the mouth of the Onkaparinga River, otherwise known as Port Noarlunga – as a sign, Noori was born.

Whether you are a local to the area or taking a trip down the coast, make sure you grab yourself a glass of vino from the cellar and if it feels right, finish off with an expertly poured nightcap.

Opening Wednesday 28th September. Noori will be open from Wednesday – Sunday, 4pm til late.

Noori On the Midcoast is located at 2/20 Gawler Street, Port Noarlunga 5167.
