Christmas

North Adelaide’s charming gem ODÉ Bistro is getting a vibrant new reno and a fresh summer menu to match

This next chapter includes a rework of the bar and delicious summer dishes that’ll be your next obsession.

After a year and a half of quietly becoming one of North Adelaide’s most charming neighbourhood dining rooms, ODÉ Bistro is stepping into its next chapter. The team is embarking on the venue’s first interior renovation, a vibrant refresh that includes new signage, a reworked bar layout, softer lighting and refined ceiling details, all designed to elevate the warm, intimate atmosphere diners already love.

For head chef and co-owner Simon Ming, the renovation is part of a natural evolution for the family-run bistro. “As we’re pushing our best to introduce gastronomic bistro dining to Adelaide, we wanted to make the space more inviting and more comfortable,” he says.

“We’ll have the new signage to start with, then a new bar layout, finished with the interior lighting and ceiling decoration. I hope the whole venue will look more vibrant after all the reno is done.”

His partner, Daisy, who co-owns the restaurant, sketched the entire redesign herself while Simon doubled down on the new summer menu.

And alongside the reno comes some delicious seasonal changes, while still keeping the signatures that regulars return for again and again. Of course, ODÉ’s cult-favourite MB6+ wagyu — cooked over hibachi flame, glazed in a 72-hour fermented-chilli meat reduction and served with black garlic miso — isn’t going anywhere.

“We’re not swiping out the whole menu,” Simon says. “We’re keeping the dishes customers love — like the Wagyu Scotch Fillet and Beef Tartare — and adding new ones slowly.”

One of the first additions is already shaping up to be a standout. Nothing says summer more than seafood, citrus and a glass of something fizzy, and ODÉ is right on the mark with its dry-aged kingfish with fermented tomato harissa gazpacho, pickled heirloom tomatoes and nasturtium.

“It’s a beautiful summer dish,” he says. “Chilled and refreshing but packed with flavour – a new best-seller soon.” A charred quail dish is also being introduced, with plenty more to follow as the season unfolds.

With Christmas under a month away, ODÉ is hitting that sweet spot between elegant dining and relaxed bistro charm. Tasty drops like L&C Poitout Chablis and Domaine Chanson Bourgogne Rouge will appease the more discerning in the group, while the fun, easygoing atmosphere keeps the vibes high for everyone else. It’s the kind of place you can bring colleagues, friends or family without the stiff formality (or the echo of empty seats).

ODÉ will continue offering its two tasting menu formats, priced at $120 and $175 per person, and they remain flexible for group bookings. “For large groups, we can modify the menu to suit customers’ needs and budgets, starting from $120,” Simon says. The bistro also offers exclusive private takeovers for up to 32 guests, with tailored food and drinks packages available on request.

Responding to growing demand, ODÉ has also expanded its trading hours. The bistro will now open on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, adding an extra night for diners who’ve filled the room throughout winter and into spring. “A big thank you to all our new and returning guests,” says Simon. “We’re excited to welcome even more of you.”

ODÉ Bistro continues to be the quiet achiever you stumble across by accident and wish you’d found sooner. After a year and a half of trade – and a Chef Hat under its belt – this next chapter is an exciting evolution for the neighbourhood favourite. And if you’re in charge of picking a spot for Christmas, this cosy, intimate and delicious little gem is a no-brainer – is there a better place to dine than on O’Connell Street?

ODÉ Bistro will serve its final services for the year on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 December, before taking a short break and reopening on Tuesday 6 January 2026. While the team is away, private holiday hire of ODÉ Bistro is still available – enquiries can be made via [email protected]
