Northern suburbs site chosen for new $155 million high school

The State Government has identified a plot of land in Adelaide’s Northern suburbs, set to be the site of a $155.3 million secondary school.

A 10-hectare plot of land in Adelaide’s Northern suburbs has been chosen as the site for a new $155.3 million secondary school to support the region’s growing population. This state-of-the-art school will have a capacity of up to 1300 students.

The area for the school is currently fenced vacant land at the corner of Andrews and Petherton roads in Eyre, and will be the home of a modern and much-needed Years 7-12 education centre set to open in 2028.

“This school is a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to deliver high-quality educational facilities for our children now and into the future,” said Premier Peter Malinauskas.

“But one school is not enough. We know the north of Adelaide is growing strongly now and will continue to do so well into the future.”

This new school announcement follows a $1.5 billion commitment to expand Greater Adelaide’s water and sewer network to accommodate plans to build new houses in the Northern suburbs.

Nick Champion, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, said “In future developments, we need to ensure we have the appropriate spaces for community infrastructure such as transport, education and health – and ensure they are designed in a strategic way that complements the local neighbourhoods.”

This week, the State Government also announced plans to create the new Northern Park Lands just south of Gawler, marking one of the most significant investments in South Australia’s public open spaces in the state’s history.

These developments come as part of the State Government’s Greater Adelaide Regional Plan – a project that includes plans to build 82,000 new homes in the Outer North over the next 30 years.

Construction on the new school is set to begin later this year.
