The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has become a trailblazer in South Australia’s public art space, providing opportunities for artists and cultural experiences for residents, visitors and the wider community.
The Council will now begin an expression of interest process and invite artists to pitch their ideas for the Fifth Quadrennial Public Artwork in response to the project brief.
The selected piece is expected to be unveiled in mid-2026.
Since the 2006-2010 term, the NPSP Council has facilitated an ongoing policy of installing a major public artwork every Council term. The Public Art Policy enables the council to set funds aside every year for the purpose of commissioning a public artwork.
Mayor Robert Bria touched on the budget, saying “While the artwork is fully funded through Council’s annual budget process, the Council will continue to seek opportunities for grant funding to help offset the cost.”

Mayor Bria says the Council is excited to continue their public art initiative, saying “Public artwork is highly valued by our community because it adds to the strong sense of place the Council is committed to creating for our residents.”
“We have a strong and vibrant arts community in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters and the
continuation of this major public art program sends a strong message to our arts community that we
are putting our money where our mouth is.”
