Norwood Swimming Club, South Australia’s most successful swimming club, is getting ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary and is looking for former members to help it make a very big splash.
The club will formally celebrate its 40th anniversary on Saturday, May 12, with a gala dinner to coincide with its annual trophy presentation night.
It hopes anyone who has had an association with Norwood Swimming Club over the past 40 years will be there to share in the milestone celebration.
Paralympian and world record holder Matt Cowdrey will be presented with life membership on the night, as will former long-time head coach Peter Bishop.
Former swimmer Martin Roberts, the first South Australian male to ever win a Commonwealth Games individual gold medal with his performance in the 200m freestyle in Auckland in 1990, will deliver the keynote presentation on the night.
Roberts, who represented SA at a national level for 19 years and swam internationally for 10 years, also competed at the 1998 Seoul Olympics and in 1992 in Barcelona and has been inducted to the SwimmingSA and Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) halls of fame.
The night will also celebrate the club’s future, with the official launch of its new logo, uniform and website.
A three-course dinner (adults $50, children U15 $35) will be held on Saturday, May 12, at the Fogolar Furlan Centre, 69 Briar Rd, Felixstow, from 6pm. A cash bar will be available.
