NOW OPEN: 82 Thai launches in Stepney, bringing fan-favourite dishes from Grange

This month, 82 Thai opened its doors at the Avenues Shopping Centre in Stepney, following the closure of their Grange location. While they have moved, the warm and welcoming vibe that regulars loved in Adelaide’s west has followed them to their new home, and the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We’ve had a lot of regulars drive all the way from Grange, and it’s been so lovely to see some familiar faces,” June, who runs the family-owned restaurant, says.

The business is a true family affair, with June’s mum as the owner, June’s partner handling the cooking, and June herself managing the restaurant. This family dynamic extends to their staff too, many of who are long-time friends, creating a feeling that is like home for both the team and the customers.

“We’ve known a lot of the people who work with us for years, so they’re like family to us,” June says.

The menu at 82 Thai stays true to the classics that have earned them loyal fans. Their signature dish is seared Japanese scallops served with coconut meat, a light salad, fresh coriander, and topped with fish roe. This dish has been with the team for years and continues to receive rave reviews from customers.

Along with the scallops, the menu features a range of comforting Thai dishes, including a dumpling curry and a crispy deep-fried barramundi with a fresh apple sauce, which June describes as “really good.”

While 82 Thai’s food could easily fit into more upscale venues, the restaurant itself keeps it casual and homey. The intimate space comfortably seats around 20 people, offering a cozy spot for dine-in customers, while also being available for takeaway and delivery through Uber Eats.

“The food is our selling point, and our staff is really friendly. We treat everyone like they’re coming into our home. It’s really welcoming and everyone is really lovely,” June says.

The focus here is on quality food, simple yet honest flavours, and a positive environment, without the need for excessive decorations or fancy trimmings. It’s all about keeping things simple and delicious.

Looking ahead, 82 Thai plans to introduce alcohol once they secure their liquor license, allowing customers to enjoy a glass of wine with their meal. While they’re still settling in, it’s already shaping up to be the go-to Thai spot for Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.
